I love linear 3D platformers.
I love open world 3D platformers.
I love collectathons.
I love first person parkour simulators.

I love homely hub areas with secrets to find and critters to talk to.
I love having a big moveset that I have full access to the moment I press new game.
I love making my own fun by using my moveset in ways the devs did not intend.

I love Mario 64 romhacks. I love one-off PS2 mascots like Vexx and Scaler. I love indies like Demon Turf and Corn Kidz 64. I love cinematic action-platformers like Prince of Persia Sands of Time. I love stealth-platformers like Sly Cooper. I love the hoverboard in Jak 2. I love surf maps in Counter-Strike and jump maps in Quake.

You must answer these questions:
>What's your favorite underrated 3D platformer?
>What's your favorite boss fight in this genre?
>What will you play next?
>What upcoming release are you looking forward to?

OP here
>What's your favorite underrated 3D platformer?
Trip's Voyage, a Mario Odyssey clone made in Dreams for PS4. Has three big levels. Worth buying Dreams just for it.
>What's your favorite boss fight in this genre?
General Tsao from Sly 3; as far as unorthodox minigame bossfights go he's fun and novel.
>What will you play next?
Crash Wrath of Cortex
>What upcoming release are you looking forward to?
Super Meat Boy 3D. Sure it looks a bit generic but Mario 3D World was cool and I want more games like it.

Yeah but nu/v/ doesn't know what "6th gen" means so you have to say "PS2" now.

I am currently making a 3D platformer collectathon, and let me tell you, it is very hard to make one. They are extremely complex. It takes a lot to get it just right.

>What's your favorite underrated 3D platformer?
Bomberman Hero

>What's your favorite boss fight in this genre?
This is difficult to answer, but I really like the mechanical one in Mario Galaxy where you have to climb up the moving gigantic boss to hit his head.

>What will you play next?
A buddy and I are playing through Banjo Kazooie this week, but next week I look forward to Donkey Kong Bananza

>What upcoming release are you looking forward to?
Other than Donkey Kong Bananza, Kero 64 is looking really cool, and so is super meat boy 3D.

>What's your favorite underrated 3D platformer?
DK64. Too many collectibles, true, but there's so much experimentation with the characters and imagination with the levels and bosses.
>What's your favorite boss fight in this genre?
I can't separate my personal experiences in my judgment: Bowser from Super Mario 64
>What will you play next?
I don't know. If it's well reviewed, I'll probably pick up that one and try it out.
>What upcoming release are you looking forward to?
I don't know. I played a Hat in Time, but I don't know what's coming up in the future.

I like 3D platformers but its clear that there are 2 big branches.

Inspired by mario 64, i call this acrobatic 3d platformers. The point is the movement and acrobatics of it all.
Inspired by banjo kazooie aka collectathon. This are more about findings a bunch of items hidden around a level, than the moment to moment movement.

There seems like there are a lot of 3d collecathons but very few 3d acrobatics.

no, its still as hard as it always was. you get used to the difficulty, though. the main thing to remember is Sybil has a rectangle hitbox, so you can stand a lil off the ledge to get better distance on jumps.

Eh. You'd have to excuse it for the time it was made in, but if you can get into the groove, then you can have fun.

I'm thinking of getting back into game dev and doing a simplish 3d platformer(no enemies and basically just need to reach one goal in the long run).
>What's your favorite underrated 3D platformer?
probably mario sunshine based on how people react to it. for something actually more obscure maybe space station silicon valley or psuedoregalia. the later of which is particularly inspiring
>What's your favorite boss fight in this genre?
probably something from hat in time just because 3d platformers really dont have good bosses
>What will you play next?
barely play games now but I'll be playing bananza
>What upcoming release are you looking forward to?
besides bananza im not really looking forward to really any games honestly
