Name 3 people in the video game industry who, if they announced their retirement today, would actually make you sad.

Todd Howard
Gabe Newell
Shigeru Miyamoto

In that order. Todd retiring would honestly hit me harder than Gabe and Miyamoto. Weirdly though Miyamoto passing would probably hit me harder than anything.

Sakurai. Those fucking retards who voted sekiro instead of smash for goty should be fucking ashamed. This guy gets death threats, tests the game with 2 controller by himself and had to be put on IV drip developing the game just for us cant even be honored with goty.

He is a fucking legend and icon

Miyamoto's basically retired anyway, so it's hardly much of a loss if he officially announces it. But yeah, his death is going to destroy a lot of people, no matter how contrarian /v/ might get about it. Iwata's death was crazy publicized despite a lot of people taking his legacy for granted at the time. Shiggy is video games incarnate, whether you give a shit about Nintendo or not.

I said before that when he retires, I retire from modern games. I meant it then and still mean it now.

Literally would kill myself over Todd Howard retiring though.

Absolutely. You can't claim to be a video game fan (or at least one big enough to come to forums and image boards about video games) if you really think you won't feel anything when Miyamoto passes. Even if you don't play games much but know who Mario and Zelda are, you're going to feel it and it's not going to feel good.

>Miyamoto's basically retired anyway,
More to the point he's so senile that he's basically dead already.

Turning 28 this year. I thought people hated Todd. Was it really ironic hate and people actually like him?

I can't speak for the others but I unironically think Todd is a cool dude.

I was being ironic, I actually like Todd.

But the biggest reason why I would be sad is that if he retired now he would be retiring at a low point of his career. Morrowind is probably still my favorite game of all time. I don't expect him to meet or surpass that bar ever again but ending his run on Starfield and possibly a shitty Elder Scrolls 6 would be genuinely painful.

Gabe newell is the only one I would truly mourn, but I would feel bad if Sakurai or Miyamoto retired, even if Miyamoto retiring might be for the best.

Funded DXVK which accelerated it's development
Released Steam console handheld which allows you to do anything you want with it
Steam just works, it was down for 10 minutes today. Just 10 minutes, I can't recall last time it was down to be honest.
Even though I hate that they pushed CS2 so hard they still made CS:GO available as a download and tried to improve and update their engine in an environment where your customer hates change.

/v/ has a tsundere relationship with him. Basically he’s a corporate shyster, but is probably responsible for 20 years of of keeping a good game formula mostly intact.

Chris Avellone is the only guy I really like in the western game industry. His writing was the only one that struck a chord with me. I think that's why I got pretty pissed when I heard he's got cancelled by HR harpies.
