This has gotta be the biggest joke of a "survive" map in the series. Like there are 2 promoted enemies on the entire map and the wyverns just sit around the castle doing nothing unless you enter their range on purpose.

Survive in general is a joke objective, just a shittier version of defend which is another objective FE usually doesn't do well.
Defend works best as a lose condition, but not for victory. It just encourages sticking units in chokes and turn stalling.

I think FE7 overall does a fairly good job of making sure you can't just chokepoint spam end turn on defend/survive maps

It's a great game.
The Lunatic difficulty setting is perfect. H4 is also cool as a novelty but not as enjoyable, despite being harder.

early mercurius is not really worth it IMO since the wyrmslayer is often the superior weapon in the chapters you'd have it early for and only Sirius as a swordmaster really has the weapon rank to use it by that point
really to me, it's whether you'd rather fight an extra hero in chapter 17 or be forced to bring Jeorge over your 11th best unit, and the latter I think is usually worth it since the heroes in that chapter are pretty strong

As long as Kris kills 3 heroes on the first enemy phase I should be fine either way. I think I'd rather have my 11th best unit (e.g. a swordmaster with the swordslayer) but Jeorge can still be useful on this map, e.g. by baiting the reinforcements to the left

I'll ask again: how do you think IS will go about incorporating the cast of 7 into a hypothetical remake of 6?

playing through Thracia for the first time, and i just gave Olwen Vantage and had her solo all the fuckin loptr mages that show up at the end of chapter 14, and she killed all but one of them because she missed a hit and she got like, 6 or 7 levels. She's good now, I think.
Dire Thunder got beat the hell up tho, but i still got all but one use of Hammerne left, so i'm good.

This was my first ever Fire Emblem game. I was deep into a emulation phase and downloaded the fan translation and rom on a whim. I loved it.

The trick is to add side objectives to your defend maps that are difficult to fulfill if all you do is choke point. FE7 even has this with that one Hector map early on. Yeah, you can turtle up like a pussy, but the boss has a Draco shield and there's chests to the south. Same thing with Conquest. There's villages for you to visit that are out of safe turtling range.
