it looks ok just a few things I'm worried about.
1. story needs to really be stellar because as it is a revenge story is the most uninspired thing ever, especially since GoT was so good at integrating the samurai/ghost gameplay with the narrative.
2. Combat looks more or less the same, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I just hope switching the stances with different weapons is more than just a gimmick.
3. Biggest problem imo with Tsushima was the thousand different hot springs, bamboo strikes, Haiku's, etc. Its not rewarding exploration its just a checklist. If they can make the open world less Ubisoft and more not Ubisoft then the better.
4. Have actual side quests with characters that people care about. The camp looks like a good idea to have interactions and save on travel time. If you can gather your own little band of warriors that would be cool.
Overall the deep dive didn't kill my expectations, but I'm not expecting anything that would blow the roof off. It might just be received as well as Tsushima, or it could be a lot better once you get stuck in and get to really experience it.

I remember when Tsushima came out and the games journalists were like "Nooooo the Japanese is all fucking wrong."

Then I play the game and the character are speaking Japanese, just a highly masculine form of it, that the youth of Japan tends to avoid but it isn't cute and education for foreigners tends to avoid because it isn't formal.

I think the clue system they showed off, where you pick what information to interrogate for, is fucking cool. I just hope it doesn't become an annoyance. Could go either way. And I wish her design incorporated more of the fact that she has multiple weapons on her at all times. A spear then twin blades then a giant ass sword materializing out of thin air during fights is fine gameplay wise, but I expect better production value from Sony 1st party. Looked low effort.

Yes I had a lot of fun with Tsushima despite the ubisoft checklist bullshit. The world was beautiful and poignant, the story was simple enough to get behind and the combat wasn’t the best but the moment to moment feel was heavy and satisfying. I am looking forward to Yotei, but I’ll wait for a Director’s Cut thats probably coming out next year. I’m not double dipping to pay for that face model’s ubereats

Looks like they're just relying on just "real time" lighting or whatever. Older games used to go around the AO problem by just painting it directly onto the texture itself, or baking it as a texture map that they could apply to the final output the same as you would with specular or normal maps. So then, you wouldn't actually have to rely on AO for EVERYTHING, and just make it work for the general scene instead.
