Maybe as a more lasting version to have in a readily accessible format? I played all three on Steam Deck and it was great.
Haunted Castle Remake is also very good, albeit short. Blows the original out of the fucking water.

It's nice to play the games on a bigger display, with all the DS screens available (gameplay, map AND enemy stats). Still, you have control over the screens layout
Haunted Castle Revisited was kinda easy, but it was a great bonus. It got the Rebirth treatment, although it's closer to its original counterpart than Adventure Rebirth was to Adventure. As expected from Castlevania, the music is excellent and possibly has my favorite arrangement of Bloody Tears
If you're on the fence, it should go on sale pretty often

Yes, it's a damn good game. But you should mostly ignore the main card gimmick for the first playthrough. There is no NG+ and beating the game lets you start a new save with all the cards already unlocked. Aside from that the level design, bosses and music are very good.

Keep in mind the extra modes unlock in sequence, you have to beat the game with each subsequent mode to unlock the next one. Fighter mode is probably the least eventful, but the game has a super challenging battle arena where cards are banned anyway. Fighter's buffed health and damage make him built for this, so at least it's something to look forward to.

When I played it for the first time when I was ten, it freaked me out when you hit the switch to crush that monster whose blood makes your raft float up the cavern.
