It's been a while. Will there be another entry to Splinter Cell?

They could choose to reboot the series at some point. Until then it's obviously dead.

fuck reboots. conviction and blast list already deviated too much. I dread what it would turn into if they fully embrace action.

You're insane if you think you'll EVER get a proper stealth game from Ubisoft. They need to move millions of units. Niche stealth game ain't gonna cut it.

The Splinter Cell series seems quite generally Global War on Terror era in its atmosphere, as in a post-9/11 patriotic glorification of intelligence agencies, though they did challenge these initial perceptions in the latter games, when Sam Fisher went rogue. I don't know if it would work as well with current-day sensibilities as it did during the 2000s. The latest series entry was what, 2013?

>It had the Tom Clancy name slapped on it for some reason
>Dude had nothing to do with the games probably didn't even know they existed
I'm still really confused about this years later, did it take place in the same universe as his books? Why would Ubisoft go through the trouble of buying the rights to use his name if it has nothing to do with the dude's works aside from the Cold War espionage shit?

Just play the modern Ghost Recon games with a stealth loadout, they even explicitly went out of their way for a First Echelon gear set for Wildlands and the Sam Fisher crossover. That's the closest you're getting besides doing something similar in Watch Dogs, because Ubisoft's abandoned virtually anything that isn't open-world slop with the same reused mechanics everywhere, including barebones basic ass stealth systems.

If you don't like open world games (or sucking down the now-failing Siege), Ubisoft doesn't like you.

Is there any point in playing those solo?

Enemies die fast and you do too. They're technically totally completable solo, and the first game let you bring an AI squad if you wanted after later updates. It's just that if you fuck up or alert the area, you will die super fast with no one to back you up or bail you out unless you et the drop on the reinforcements. Breakpoint on the flip side basically requires the proper mode to set that balance because by default it's retardedly a looter shooter that will punish you for shit gear scores, but with the Immersive mode on you can get the proper quick kills and equalized death experience.

It's really just how clunky these games can be that are the main sticking factor, but if you can work past that they're not bad. They ARE best enjoyed in co-op generally, but work fine enough if you're good enough to handle group takedowns efficiently or know when to pick and choose your fights.

Also gotta say that a lot of folks prefer Wildlands for being more dense despite worse vehicle controls, but also in general it actually really sucks that there's other games of this sort of ilk on the market. Far Cry is too one man army wacko, Watch Dogs is a whole different ballgame that's more urban Assassin's Creed with hacking and guns, and Metal Gear never followed up V for company drama reasons. So while I don't like open world games much myself, you basically don't get any tactical shooters like these anywhere else unfortunately.

Just know a lot of it is positioning and sight lines, unless you're going in at night there's plenty of daytime to deal with. So you don't really get Splinter Cell tier noise/light level stuff; GR was always a shooter first, with stealth being more of a factor to not die so quickly, and the open games especially on Ghost/Immersive force you to be very cautious.

They had announced a VR Splinter Cell game but it got cancelled, it was Oculus exclusive I think.
Now we know Ubisoft is working on a remake of the OG game but we know nothing about it other than it exists. Considering what's going on at Ubisoft, there's a considerable chance it could be axed.

The easy win method is to just get a sniper with a suppressor and clear the map from 200 meters, marines style

Which doesn't matter in the end since the AI is beyond retarded

Okay, a quick burst of the free trial and this is way more stealth focused than I expected, even if very rudimentary. But boy, the console versions suck being stuck at 30 FPS. Also not sure how to feel about the auto-cover mechanics.

having the digitized sam sprite with the same climbing animations was a neat novelty but they would have been far better as overhead metal gear clones.

based. I had that Chaos Theory Java port on some old Nokia, played it more than the actual console version lmao. Couldn't even crouch or aim properly but somehow still felt stealthier than most crap now. Simpler times.

Do, but be aware that Wildlands is much, much better. I played Wildlands for 150 hours, i never even finished Breakpoint.
