It's just that if you fuck up or alert the area, you will die super fast with no one to back you up or bail you out unless you et the drop on the reinforcements. Breakpoint on the flip side basically requires the proper mode to set that balance because by default it's retardedly a looter shooter that will punish you for shit gear scores, but with the Immersive mode on you can get the proper quick kills and equalized death experience.
It's really just how clunky these games can be that are the main sticking factor, but if you can work past that they're not bad. They ARE best enjoyed in co-op generally, but work fine enough if you're good enough to handle group takedowns efficiently or know when to pick and choose your fights.
