They knew how to make shit, that's how they knew how to make it really fucking bad on purpose. All of the post-360 controllers are built to fail, designed to crap out precisely when the warranty expires so you're incentivized to either cough up repair money or buy another one. Don't believe me? The bumpers, L1 and R1, are a SINGLE PIECE of cheap plastic that actuates by BENDING. No springs, no hinge. It doesn't take an engineer to know that's going to fail with any amount of use, but it took an engineer to design it that way, and it took a manager to tell the engineer what to make. Further, these aren't cheap products, they're not obviously intended to be disposable, it's only after studying their designs that this becomes an undeniable truth.

I'm pretty sure this is illegal but until someone actually takes them to court over it they're going to keep doing it.

Those elite controllers are farmed out to a company called SCUF. They started out as a patent troll that hoarded all sorts of controller input types (which is why the standard gamepad hasn't changed since 2000), then they actually had to start proving they were actually using their 200+ patents, so they partnered up Xbox to make the Elite controllers. Corsair wound up buying them out so now they shit out a lot of these for PC too.

Is that the "Elite" controller?

It's such a piece of trash. It has little pads on the inside to cushion the triggers so they don't make (as much) noise. The problem is that they can become dislodged and the glue and get exposed making your triggers stick. The only solution is to open them up and clean it out or cram cotton in there through the seams to hopefully coat the glue.

This shouldn't be an issue with a "premium" product like this.

In regards to other controllers, stay away from 8bitdo. A lot of people will tell you they're good, but I've had issues and had to return my last three. Not worth it anymore.

Gamesir is OK, but for some reason I can only get Steam to recognize it as a PS4 controller.

Hori's recent Steam Controller is OK too, especially as you can customize it's extra buttons to literally anything you want with Steam Input not just one of the already represented buttons (even things like mouse and keyboard keys) it just has no vibration functionality for some reason.

Maybe look into stick caps. They're relatively cheap and can give worn-out sticks the traction they used to have back.

I wish I could go with an Xbox controller, I just can't stand the asynchronous analog stick placement.

I agree with this, but I would say the more recent 8bitdo Ultimate 2 is a top tier controller, it has the regular 2 back buttons plus 2 extra shoulder buttons that are nice to hit and are really useful for binding shit like jump or reload to, so you don't need to take your thumb off the right stick as often. It's a fucking great controller and it has TMR sticks so no drift.

I just wish they'd start releasing them in transparent colored plastic like those old gameboys and stuff, I love that purple/green transparent shit from the 90s. At least they have some wacky colors like snot green here

D-Pads have been an afterthought on modern controllers for a while. All the 1st party controllers have meh d-pads, except for Nintendo which has dogshit ones.
And the chink ones don't even bother making them passable.
They're all in the wrong place and either feel super mushy or they use microswitches so you can't hear the game over the button presses. Also, misinputs galore.

i've had mine for a year and it's still like new. if you take care of it and wash your hands it's fine. i keep it in the case it came with when not using it, even still smells like new. i have the white one, so it's more obvious when it gets all grimy from sweaty hands, a little bit of isopropyl with microfibre cloth and it's like new again.
your rubber bits look hideous. mine never get grimy, just the plastic parts.

I bought the wired version with the red wine buttons. The dpad is really bad and my left stick got drift in like 2 or 3 months. Bought the galileo g8 for my phone and haven't had a issue so far. Mastered Dissidia Final Fantasy with it through retroachievements. I can't stand the clicky dpad though. I just want something as good as the galileo g8 but with a good dpad so I can get back to my 2d games. I'm getting a deck oled next month and I hope the dpad is good enough.

Planned obsolescence is not conspiracy. It isn't even an open secret. It's just fact. Apple have been caught, and admitted to, slowing down older iPhones with updates. Just look up the history of nylon stockings. When they first came out they were so well made that one pair could last a lifetime. So the people making them had to figure out how to make them shitter so they could sell more. It's why you have toasters from the 40s that still work no problem but good luck buying one today that will last you ten years.

I bought this, it is really nice. Was noticeably cheaper than what it should have been in my regional pricing so it was a huge steal.
I was used to the Sony style controllers and I was worried if I couldn't get used to the control scheme but my worries were for naught.
Read that some super early faulty stock was mixed in. The trigger springs might be faulty so be sure to check 'em I guess but from what I've seen the customer support seems to be on it.
Speaking of the trigger springs, I wish they were a little bit more stronger. I think the triggers are a little bit soft for my tastes, perhaps because I was used to my dualshock 4 but that slight resistance felt good.
Another minor nitpick would be that the faceplate has this "smoky" look to it in real life as the color shifts.
A huge complaint of mine would be the AWFUL AWFUL company name. I know companies shill here and if Gamesaar is among them I implore you guys to rebrand.

I won't go on record and say its THEBESTTHEBESTTHEBEST but its certainly a solid 3rd party controller. Mine survived a house fire, 6+ years of active use, and it still is ticking along nicely. My only complaint is that I should have bought the wired variant as I dislike having to worry about battery charge and my ADHD makes me forget to plug it back in after a session, but even if I forget about it you can pop out the regargable battery pack and put some AA's into it and it will work just fine.

If I had to give it a score out of 10? I'd say an 8. Cheap, durable, and solid for $40 and lots of options that are available for modding even if I never use them
