Why do people think he's a Mormon when he reads from the KJV Bible, even quotes from it, and says nothing about Mormonism at all?

Because he comes from Utah and mentions that a "member of his tribe" made the m1911 - that tribe member was John Moses Browning, a Mormon. Honestly speaking, I think the reason they made him a Mormon has something to do with the perfect Mormon leader being "A Caesar with the Soul of Christ" - this is paraphrasing but almost a direct quote that either Joseph Smith or Brigham Young said IIRC.

Honestly, knowing nothing else about the religion except for what is widely described by pop culture, it's somewhat surprising that it never took over the US. It seems like an extremely ideologically american belief system that would be the perfect software to run an empire like the US. You got any insight on this, anon? I'm assuming you're American

The other religions have a 2000 year advantage with big institutions behind them. There's the Catholic church, the Muslims with the Mecca and the Jews with the whole Israel and Wall of lamentations thing.
It's like corporations, why Pepsi and Coca Cola dominate the soft drink market? Because they don't let anyone else enter, they have infinite money for marketing, shelf space and outright buying the competition.
