>>715151101 (OP)the ps5 was the first PS console I completely skipped.
Not only it is super expensive in my region but it literally has no games to play. I just got myself a new PC instead and have been enjoying that. Might never go back to consoles since Nintendo is going on the same route and the tax rates increased while our currency devalued tremendously.
>>715151352valve/steam pretty much killed consoles by being such a superior platform that sucked up so much market share that devs were forced to stop doing console exclusives. streamers showing console kiddies that PC gaming is actually the most practical, serious and "cool" way to play games also helped.
nintendos consoles are the only ones that do really well these days but thats because the people who buy those are more like nintendo brand enthusiasts than video game fans
>>715151352There is no reason for consoles to exist anymore
>not really cheaper than PC >no exclusives >UI gets worse and worse with each console generation >games are basically digital only on consoles too because they require big day 1 patches I could go on.
>>715151249Thanks for stepping in Skip

>>715151767>>715151847yeah the used to be the cheaper alternative for poorfags such as myself but now that seems to be pc. Regional price also helps a ton, bought quite a few games for less then one discounted game on PS4 around here, can't even imagine the price of PS5 games are right now and it will only get worse with the 80$ dollar games and the next console iteration, but I guess it doesn't matter to sony since PS5 made more money than every other console before it trough microtransactions alone.
>you have lived long enough where the new school gamer is now the ancient gamer
>>715152214what about those before ancient gamer?
what are those called?
>>715152191>it will only get worse with the 80$ dollar games and the next console iterationif it makes you feel any better, i have a fairly strong hunch that the move to charge 80 dollars per game is basically the AAA's industry's desperate hail mary attempt to try to become profitable, and every single economic indicator points that it will fail miserably
>average consumer is poorer >people are tired of the whole "mark-up culture" of companies jacking up the prices out of greed>cheaper games are generally more profitable, because the more people get their hands on your game, the more people are going to talk about it and thus the more people are going to buy it, etc.>most 80 dollar games are geared towards singleplayer, for which there is considerably less FOMO potential or viral excitement, which makes a lot of people delay their purchase until it goes on sale>80 dollar multiplayer titles often do even worse because people are naturally more hesitant to buy them, and the servers end up dead on day 1, which instantly kills the game like with concordthe AAA industry was already a garbage fire and trying to charge more money for less is them pouring gasoline on the fire. they act like they have a captive audience when in fact their audience has never had more options, more awareness and more resentment for AAA in the entire history of this industry
>>715151847there is one and it's the simplicity of use. Plug, (set up 15 accounts and download 10 patches), and play. No need to build it or research components. For casuals and parents, it's great.
>>715153291Steam made pc gaming so brain dead easy that it's literally just
>buy pc >install steam >done People pretend like it's some form of black magic to buy a pre-built pc and download steam.
>>715151101 (OP)And how many years since you last had a gf?
>>715153360>not really cheaper than PCthey are in most third world countries due to how taxes work and regional pricing for games and even on first world ones they are cheaper in the long run as well since PC get discounted more often and for better discounts as well
>>715153508steam controller support is legit amazing, better yet when the community can also suggest controller setups
>>715151101 (OP)your mom is almost 10 years old you little bitch
>>715153360>ps5 pro 800 >mandatory subscription 70>second controller 65>games 80 I could go on, is a pc still more expensive? probably but it's not the difference it used to be and all in all the pc is just the better investment.
>>715151101 (OP)I hear that it'll be getting a game soon.
i cant believe 10 years ago was 30 years ago
>>715153508The black magic is when you're a pirate, doubly so if you're a pirate on Linux
>>715151101 (OP)Almost fell for it. Well done.
>>715152214Now make one with new mmorpg expansions as ancient gamers, Fortnite and Marvel Rivals as old school and and gachas as new school
You joke OP but the PS6 will be 10 years old in 15 years
>>715151101 (OP)Feels wrong potentially skipping a console generation, but thereโs nothing worth getting it for. So many of their franchises abandoned ship.
>>715153291honestly i haven't owned a console since the 360 but i can't imagine consoles are as simple as they used to be. every time i look at some console UI, it looks like corporate spyware or something, and as you said you still have to do a shit ton of annoying busywork before you can even play the game (in a shittier UI and a walled garden type environment). honestly the only people i know who play on console are some venn diagram overlap of somewhat ignorant and stubborn
>>715153360>buy a console box for 70% of the cost of a pc box but it can only do 10% of what the pc box can do AND the games cost morewhy do you think they sell their hardware at a loss? because now they have a captive customer and will drain your wallet with overpriced games to make their money back
>>715154336The last plug & play consoles were the 6th generation ones
>>715151847You forgot the part where modern games are so poorly optimized that youโre not even guaranteed a DECENT experience on consoles. At least on PC you have more control on settings plus mod support
I've had PCs for 25 years at this point and I've had a PS5 for 3 years. I bought it because I really wanted to own a console since I was a kid, and my parents didn't want to buy me one. Consoles have three things going for them - one is the fact that games just work. Too many new and old games have weird and niche compatibility issues with some hardware (this happens less often now, but in the early 2010s it was a straight up gamble) or just straight up do not work on the system. Maybe the game is just unoptimized garbage or straight up unfinished, or you need an upgrade. You can buy a PC for less money that is equivalent or better than a PS5, but people gloss over the fact that games made for the PS5 architecture and will 100% play. If you can stomach not having options, then the PS5 is just slightly cheaper than a PC, but the difference is negligible. I've bought too many $60 shit games that killed my enjoyment to play them on PC. 20% of my games on Steam are either gone or unplayable due to developer chicanery (google why your $10 USD copy of Manhunt doesn't let you get past the first gate). Second reason - you can just trade or sell your games if you buy physical. And the third reason is there are far less cheaters. I have 9000 hours spread across different online games and I've come to the conclusion that PC gamers are paper thin losers. The playerbase of the top 5 most played games on PC will kill your drive to play them. You can get good at any game you want, but you will not have fun. It sucks that you must pay to play online games, but knowing that you will mostly play games against clean opponents for me was what made me switch and not return. I've been gaming mostly on my PS5 and I don't miss PC gaming at all. I had some fun, but it was mostly miserable having to share my hobby with egomaniacal niggers that have so little going on in their lives that they will make a using a computer their entire personality and identity. Gaming is supposed to be fun.
>>715154497i dont think console experience has ever been very performant, and in fact the switch sold well despite abysmal performance. i think audiences have just been ignorant what good performance feels and looks like, and now they no longer are.
but you are right that it doesnt help that game devs target low framerates for consoles, and they still can't reach those and thus they end up turning up the vaseline smear technology up to max. and it all seems to be done in the service of putting the game out faster so it can flop. aside from general brain drain, it probably is caused at least partially by the managers and shareholders being replaced by people who dont give a fuck if the product is good or not. the whole "release date: when it's done" culture is basically dead now
>>715151101 (OP)This is what a typical lifecycle of a console should be. 10 fucking years.
Look at the lifecycle of Switch. That shit didn't last 10 years before they shit out Switch 2. And their hardware is still underwhelming that it can't match the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
