I like Japanese but I also played Tales of Symphonia in English when I was a kid and I love Colette/Amy's voice actress. Tough choice for me.

Definitely Japanese. More VAs retain their roles over multiple instalments and most of them perform better than their English counterparts. I can't imagine Cassandra being voiced by anyone else than Reiko Takagi, for instance. The English translation also gets a lot of stuff wrong. You'll at least have a comparison with spoken dialogue when playing with Japanese voices.

The narrator always speaks in English regardless of the voice track choice. There's not a single Soulcalibur game with Japanese narrator voice. Not even SC1, where English dubbing is completely missing otherwise.

The only drawback to Japanese SC I can think of is that you don't get Kevin Michael Richard's good Keith David impression for Spawn, but Spawn in Japanese is Akio Otsuka so I'll still take it.

Anyway, since this is the SC thread now I guess, what's everyone hoping we get for the hypothetical SC7? Any guest characters you hope come back? Any ideas?

I hope we get SC7 at all and I hope that it will not have any guest characters. That said, both are unlikely. I'm also scared to think what they'll try with SC7 if it does ever come out, SC was historically the fighter series that Bamco was willing to experiment and take risks with much more compared to Tekken, and in their last game they basically threw away every well-established legacy aspect of Tekken...

Maybe at least the story can end on a positive note and without a cliffhanger for once.

I wish SC was still alive, but I refused to support 6 because of the day one DLC. So I'll accept its death if that's the sort of shit Bamco wants to continue to do with it.

Tough call but I'm on the English side of things for once. It's spotty sometimes but I find the overall end product to be inoffensive. Not so much nowadays if a SC7 came. Also gotta see how long Wendee Lee can keep voicing Xianghua.

They're both very good honestly but I tend to just stick with English
The Japanese va's that 1 had do give some of the English ones a run for their money, not to mention the fact that some of them actually did the English voice overs later on, at least briefly

I have a friend who plays Cassandra in 2 and 3 so I'm not really familiar with her 6 moveset but the tracking on that shield throw move is nuts

Yeah, that shield throw tracks completely. You can't sidestep it at all. It will even catch Yoshimitsu after he teleports. You have to guard against it or get out of range. That said, at least Raphael, Mitsurugi and Haohmaru have moves that can whiff punish it well.

Did you try to do 4A after 66K+B.A.B as Sophitia? I know that's a thing is SC1.

Btw Sophitia's Critical Edge comboes with her 66K.

Sophie's 1AA is actually pretty slow and really easy to punish on block. It can also be punished on hit if her opponent is on the ground and only the low hits them. Better to go for 11_99A.A ("_" means "or") or just 1K for a single low. 66K A+B+K comboes. 66B 22_88B.A.K comboes. 66B 236236B also comboes and most people prefer that version, but I don't use it. A lot of her attacks become stronger during Soul Charge. Good strings to use during SC are 236A.A.B, 4A.B, 236236B. Her 2B.B is unsafe except during SC. You can go 4A or A after 4A+G and the second part of the throw can be broken accordingly to what you chose.
