I was shitposting the first time I posted that sentiment, but then I found out Kamitani himself was coming out against PC ports, not the higher-ups at Sega-Fatlus like I had originally thought. Dragon's Crown alone, on Steam at a reasonable price point, would sell millions and also provide evergreen income. Sega has plenty of seasoned porters working for them now, his team wouldn't even have to do anything. So there's something about Steam releases he doesn't like, whether conscious or not. You're spot on with the From comparison though. Can you imagine if every From game released after Demon's Souls were as revolutionary as Demon's Souls instead of just a slightly modified copy of Demon's Souls?

The golden age of gaming being the age of exclusives is no coincidence: developers needed to make games so, so, so good they would push consumers to buy an expensive piece of hardware to play them, be a console or a GPU, and in the case of PC games you didn't need to compromise your vision to accommodate for weak hardware.

Why not both? Unicorn isn't quite like FE though, just as 13 Sentinels isn't a RTS (read above), it's a squad based auto-battler where you program each character in each squad akin to FF12's gambit system, if FF12 had multiple parties at once, and the battle map is real time rather than turn based.
Distinct enough not to feel like FE, which is frustrating because outside Ogre Battle and Symphony of War there's no other game like Unicorn.
