Unless you enjoy pvp fighting in battlegrounds forever it's one of the worst games ever made. The leveling experience is laughable, you just walk from pointless activity to pointless activity while rewards magically appear in your inventory. The endgame is no different. The story is the biggest weak point, but the Gem shop is the best monetization system for a B2P I've ever seen.
The gameplay is serviceable and the level design is great. Do not listen to hyperboles, it's a perfectly fine game to jump into.

Icebrood saga is good

Playing it and going through first expansion. Is a good game gameplay wise, race & profession design is well done, and story wise is acceptable (But looks like it will get worse, but the game having mediocre story is a fact almost all players both old & new agree), have horizontal progression so no need to get ascended armor to do raids & dungeons, and is an MMO with no subs and only need to buy expansions, with game store for cosmetics and some QoL things.
At least is better than World of Warcraft.

Season 4 really, really felt like the team figured they were done with the game, and they had something else planned, but then they got slapped by NCsoft and told to continue making content. The end of S4 is definitely the game's highest point story-wise. The core gameplay mechanics are alright, it has a decent engine for an old game, pretty nice-looking set pieces. I wish the weapon/armor upgrade system was more streamlined and more like GW1 where it was easy to get max stats on gear. It's usually going to Zerkers or DPS talismans on your gear, there's no reason to do anything else in PVE.

I'd like if the skills had more of a "weight" to them, for me it feels like they're all samey with just different particle effects.

The story for the first game and maguma were decent, it really got off the rails when the baby dragon appeared. I didn't care for the characters nor understood what the fuck was going on most of the time in the later expansions, I was mainly just looking forward to exploring the zones and set pieces.

Literally the only thing Bava Nisos needed was an actual boss for the final meta event. The first half of the map with the three expedition events are fun, and the actual meta is pretty nice with gimmicks and shitty, but it just ends on a horrible wet fart. There's even that look into the realm of torment in the story mode, so it definitely feels like they wanted to have some kind of end boss, but either ran out of time or just couldn't come up with a good idea for one, and the endgame meta really suffers for it.

Heart of Thorns has the best forest i've seen in a game, at first you will be completely lost,but you will slowly learn how to navigate it.

Path of fire has a great mount system and the zones are fun to explore.

It's great for open-world and PvP, but terrible for dungeons and raids. Every "rotation" boils down to "press all your buttons, switch weapon, press all your buttons, switch weapon, repeat".

ArenaNet have no amanged to successfully release a single project outside of Expansions since GW2 launched, despite trying multiple times and letting GW2 suffer for it.
They are theoretically working on GW3 now, but I expect it to be canned due to incompetence or MMOs basically being a dead genre.

You'll find that everything becomes homogenous end game. Gear in this game is only worth farming to look cool. Fractals are a joke of a dungeon/raid system that barely adds any power to your character. Most if not all classes have a 1-shot build with the right runes. This is mainly a waifu simulator with the occasional interesting jump puzzle.

Fundamentally what makes up an MMO (and really any game) are Story, Graphics, Gameplay, and Community. The story in this game is frankly mid seeming like it's tacked on killing off key figures randomly to add surprise. Graphics are really the main selling point for this game and I would argue it's probably top 3 best MMOs in terms of look and design. Best mmo on the market right now besides the story being pretty bad in the most recent expansions. It has a true mmo endgame where you can play forever and always have something to do or a goal to accomplish. Besides having to buy expansions with money, gold is extremely easy to farm yourself to buy cash shop items through conversion. Has the best mount system in gaming, not just mmos. Fully voiced story is great if you're into it but a slog if you aren't since you can't skip. If all mmos adopted gw2's horizontal end game progression system, the world would be a better place.

Since this isn't a raiding game you aren't required to play some metafag build to have fun and deal damage. This was such a bizarre game to me. I got max level but it didnt mean anything since you can take part in most of the content at any level. Theres no real gear progression and theres only a handful of looks per armor type unless you spend money. You rarely learn new skills and most of them are useless anyway. There isnt really any tanking or healing, though I did tank as a Mesmer once which was cool but I didnt understand how I was maintaining aggro. I never understood the point of doing anything.

you will spend 50% of the time messing with your bank/inventory; this is by design because they want to push you to buy more bank space / bag slots / character slots (for when you inevitably start muling everything)
for as good as it is though, the novelty wears off quick when you start trying to do endgame grinds like legendaries
the story is really bad, the dialogue is marvel tier quips

the pvp is very meta-heavy but it can be enjoyable
overall you really have to work for the fun, everything is very accessible (except maybe raids/strikes, which might change with next expansion) and there's lots of cool stuff happening, if it had a subscription it would be criminal but since you just need to buy it to play, it's fair to experience once
