I genuinely cannot fathom choosing Maelle's ending unironically. Verso and Renoir were 100% in the right, I understand this is /v/ and people like to exaggerate and all but I would really like to see someone try and explain to me why Maelle's ending is the better choice. I'm not arguing or acting in bad faith or anything I'm just really wondering.

You could argue that the painted people have true sentience and erasing them is horrible, since they did nothing to deserve it. Then again, Verso never claimed to have the moral high ground, he just wanted his family to heal and move on, fuck the painted people.

At that point in the game everyone is already gone except the main party, to choose Maelle's ending and bring them back to just be the playthings of a sad unbalanced girl seems even worse than erasing them in the first place to me if they are truly sentient.
>>715164269
Him dying leads to his "family" gaining the path to closure and saving them, the goals are one in the same and it is stated as much in the game itself though.
>>715164317
Once again Maelle continuing to live in a delusion and also painting everyone back to just be her toys seems even worse morally than erasing them in the first place and Verso's ending does show the family together and implies things are getting better in the last scene.
>>715164554
Forcing Maelle to accept the reality of the situation and giving way to change and hopefully a richer life is far less morally wrong than subjecting the soul of a dead boy to endless torment and slavery.

Dude, regardless if that's the real Verso or not. They both accomplished the same thing: saving the real family, whereas Alicia just wants to further tear it apart to maintain a fake illusion of happiness.
Anyone who genuinely believes Alicia's ending has any silver lining whatsoever is a delusional retard (much like Alicia.)

Just one of the many instances of E33 subverting expectations: despite Verso's constant lying and backstabbing, he's the hero, despite Maelle's Mary Sue nature, she's considered the villain.

And what makes her "real" life more real than the one in the painting? Maybe she too, has been "painted" by another god?

She intends to live out the rest of her real life in a delusional state, which would then cause even more damage to three other "real" people outside the painting, her real family most likely forever tearing them apart.

It's childish of her to want to live in a puppet house where she's the puppet master and can make everyone her friend. Even if within the painting it would be real, it's not real real, because they have no choice. She'll force them like she forced Verso anyway.

It's there because Alicia fucked up, got herself repainted and spent virtual 15 years with virtual people, developing this weird need to protect her simulation people. Renoir was 100% in the right. This shit consumes you and developing defense mechanism against It should be the first thing that you learn when going inside paintings.

Psychopathy, waifufagging or people that would sign up for the suicide pleasure booth.
Some of the shitposters are also in denial that the people of Lumiere are already erased by that point to force the "genocide" angle which was deliberately avoided by the devs (Lune is the only painted character left by that point that doesn't embrace the end of the painting). I don't know whether they are shitposting or it's a genuine case of media illiteracy.

It's really quite simple for many; you're choosing between characters you've spent the whole game with vs the antagonists. Renoir is decent enough but Aline and Clea are cunts, so many wouldn't want to sacrifice even just Lune, Scielle, Monoco and Esquie for them.

It's sort of a catch 22 because she refuses to leave, therefore demonstrating that she is addicted and does need to be stopped by stronger measures
If Maelle wasn't a junkie and could accept a modicum of responsibility, it would have been as simple as leaving the canvas with Renoir as soon as he was defeated, proving that she can in fact hold herself back and that the canvas doesn't need to be destroyed. Of course, it's a moot point since Maelle is an actual addict and doesn't actually want to ever leave, but it's not as though Renoir was dead set on destroying the painting for no reason. Between Aline and Alicia they really didn't give him a choice, both of them are basically willing to kill themselves because they love shooting up morphine so much

I respond by telling him he should've stabbed Maelle through the back of her head while she was talking to Renoir if he actually wanted to die.
Painted Verso is just compelled to take a contrarian traitor stance, it's programmed into him by Aline.

Had he merely locked in on the gommage objective he would have just sided with Renoir at the start of act 3.
The entire third act happens because Verso wants to end the painting while still giving a satisfying conclusion for Maelle.
Unfortunately for him she's a dumb brat and has fans even worse than her. At least she knows her father loves her now. That's the only difference compared to just not having act 3, and Verso took the risk of getting in the bad ending just for that.

>The entire third act happens because Verso wants to end the painting while still giving a satisfying conclusion for Maelle.
The third act happens because Verso has realized that maybe, MAYBE they don't have to destroy the canvas after all, but any hope of that is ruined during the final fight when: 1, Aline returns to the canvas after what would be mere moments of real world time, 2, Renoir reveals to him the extent of his mother's physical suffering in the real world, and 3, he sees Maelle lie about not wanting to live there forever. These three events unfortunately lock into his mind that the canvas and the life he wants for his family cannot coexist, which is why he goes through with what he does.

The universe outside the painting is paper thin. We only see the Dessendre manor and the four living members of the family.
The only thing established is that there are painters with the power to create miniworlds, and their nebulous enemy (the writers, just a name).
It's so little that aside from making you play Renoir/Clea/Aline/Alicia team fighting the writers, there would be zero contact with the first game, and that would be a direct sequel.

At the end the remnant of Verso agrees with Verso. He already tends his hand when Maelle separates them with a sword. In the bad ending ghost shota verso isn't even acknowledged while he has a cute moment with Verso in the good ending. Also the characters that real Verso created agree with Verso.

Verso did it all for his family. He and Renoir were the same in that regard, they accept that the people in the painting are real, but wish for Aline to heal more than anything. Of course he still truly cherishes his relationships with other people like Sciel & Lune.
And then his sister did the exact same thing as his mother. Knowing she will eventually become as miserable as his mother, unfortunately for him, there was only one solution to this.
Yes he hates his own existence, would rather die, and wishes Aline had never painted him or given him the memories & personality of Verso in the first place. But if he could have found a way to preserve it all along with his family outside the painting going back to normal, he would've done it. It's why he helps Alicia in act 3.
Verso's life is a tragedy.

Not at all, pay attention to Verso's body language in the second half. Everytime he has any kind of reaction, it's because of things involving his family. He's horrified as he begins to realize the reaction Maelle is headed, and he also has a tiny freak out when Renoir shows them what Aline looks like as she's overdosing on Chroma. Painted or not, they gave him all of Verso's memories and feelings, and he died for his sister, so he obviously deeply loved his family

This game hit me pretty hard since my mom has basically been killing herself with booze for the last few years. It wasn't super apparent until the last few months when she got soft fired from her job. I tried a bunch of shit with her like taking away her booze, but she would just order more and was (and is) in complete denial that something was wrong with what she was doing.

What it took for my family to listen to me was my grandfather seeing her not able to walk and fucking babbling nonsense on a Tuesday morning after downing a liter of tequila that she needed help, and so after a bunch of back and forth bullshit shes FINALLY going into rehab soonish.

So anyways, I saw the Maelle ending for what it was and I was happy that I picked the Verso ending. I cant fucking stand it when people go on with an addict's bullshit.

No, not really.
He just want the best for his mother and his sister, he was actually trying to stop Renoir to destroy the canvas until Maelle started to act like a retard, than he decided it was for the best to destroy everything.

Didn't you guys understand what Verso wanted? He wanted to die so he was trying to end the painting. Alicia did not like that, but compromised with Verso in that he can die "naturally". Basically by old age. In short Alicia removed his immortality. Even the other characters aged. That's why Verso was old in Alicia's ending.

Honestly Renoir probably could have solved the problem by locking the painting in a big ass safe in the basement. Since theyre richfags they probably have one big enough. And what is Maelle going to do about it? Its not like she has paint powers in the real world.
Plus, just knowing that the painting still exists would give peace of mind to everyone.

That's the beautiful thing about this game's endings, they both have their own pros and cons to them.
Like Verso's would ultimately be helping the family move on and properly grieve, but its also marred by his own selfish desire to die and take the entire world of the Canvas and its people with him.
Whereas Maelle's is saving the people she loves in the Canvas and considers just as real as the family in the real world, but its also her own selfish desire to not live as a one eyed crispy cripple in a family that partially resents her.

Renoir, Aline, Clea and real Verso can influence things more drastically. They made the lumerians, axons, gestrals and nevrons from scratch and those carry some of their motives from their designers.
Maelle is a total jobber at painting incapable of that.

this makes no sense since Alicia doesn't have the painting ability to paint over people's drawings proof? she couldn't even fix lumiere in her ending. lumiere is literally still cracked and broken showing she's a hack that can't paint shit except repainting people from memory that existed before.
