You still get a grip in the box but it doesn't have charging capability. Charging joycon grips don't actually make a lot of sense unless you don't own a Switch/Switch 2 in the first place so you don't have a charging station for the controllers (the tablet itself)

For a controller shaped the exact same it's actually bafflingly stupid they pretty much thrashed its repairability and user friendliness for no reason. They're gonna eat some pretty big shit with that battery edict from the EU coming up
>>715183165
If you're someone who only plays docked, it sucks to have to get up and put the controller on the console every single time. There's literally no reason why the included grip doesn't have a USB passthrough.
>>715183480 >it sucks to have to get up and put the controller on the console every single time
You are either too lazy or a fat fuck. >There's literally no reason why the included grip doesn't have a USB passthrough.
Kikery and to sell you the add on later.

If you work at engineering you get used to this stuff, there's never a "it didn't have to be there" when shipping a product if it's there it's for a reason (in this case, they wanted to save some pennies on materials for the grip).
>>715184014
I don't care what the pencil necks in tiny hats have to say, and you shouldn't either. Nintendo is LITERALLY the only controller manufacturer to pull this kind of shit.
>>715180351
I like how he tries to prove the battery pack being hard to replace is a sin with a controller that uses AA batteries for power. Like no shit if it's a simple battery you'd need to access is easily but people aren't replacing their li-on batteries on a regular basis.
>>715184530
It doesn't matter if it's frequent or not, you should be able to fix a part that is going to fail at some point. The Switch 1 didn't have this issue.
>>715184656
I'm not saying that it's not happening, just that they purposefully chose a controller design where you need immadiate access to the batteries to exaggerate the issue. They didn't need to do that, they could've used the dualsense and that would've been a fair comparison but they needs to maximize rage to squeeze out more views.

Being forced to use that fucking grip and the soicons in general is a humiliation ritual. You don't understand, this is what Nintendo customer WANT for their money.
>>715176996 (OP)
You know exactly why, Nintendo are kikes. Joycons are awful for handheld play too. We're stuck waiting for third parties to make something decent.
>>715188286 >You don't understand, this is what Nintendo customer WANT for their money.
As opposed to not giving a shitty plastic in the box to put the joycons in and being forced to buy an additional thing if you want to play docked more comfortably? Is that the better option for the consumer?
>online fees >controller sold separately >$80 games >games never go on sale >most 3rd party games are sold on key cards, meaning mandatory installs, only comes with 256GB storage so you'll need to buy special snowflake sd cards soon
switch and especially switch 2 are pretty awful value when you actually sit down and think about it for a second
>>715188968
not really, the right to repair law only says that companies need to provide repair for their costumers at a reasonable price and can't interfere with third parties creating repair services for their product. The repair itself being a hassle doesn't matter as long as you have the option to repair it.
>>715189107
No, the joycons are atrociously bad as they are and don't count as proper controllers. A game console should come with at least 1 proper controller (i.e. something with a fucking dpad)
>>715189860 >>715190502
Your personal opinions doesn't matter when you're crying over a company not shipping their console with two controllers when the last time it happend was with the NES
>>715191528
No it doesn't. If it doesn't have a dpad, it's useless.
It's fucked up how there is like 1 knockoff soicon with a dpad and even that lacks a battery and has a weird color.
>>715191963
There's one which looks like the original joycon, but I don't know why you'd want that - the original's ergonomics are godawful.
There are plenty with dpads which are more comfortable and also better in every other respect too.
>>715192281
The last time I checked, only HORI made joycons with d-pad, and they were all had kind of meme design like zelda and stuff instead of a single color. Also people said it felt cheap and a lot lighter than a regular joycon. >plenty with dpads which are more comfortable and also better in every other respect too
I never heard of those, what are they like?
>>715192626
Hori have a few different options with dpads, some are even pretty good. For me though I like mobapad m6 best. Build quality is solid, dpad & buttons are tactile and responsive, and it's got feature parity with everything in stock joycons except the ir sensor.
