They're taking over /v/ at least, since we pushed most games onto spin-off boards and then we didn't gatekeep the underage/poorfag phoneposters. At least it's better than the twitter screenshots, e-celeb drama, and just straight up garbage spam threads our board is also infested with.

They've definitely completely supplanted the weeb/2D niche. Most 2D otaku stuff is now in gacha games only, you have maybe a handful of companies left that still do ecchi/lewd 2D stuff that isn't gaccha.
Overall? Not really, not in terms of big massive profits. Mihoyo notwithstanding.

An extremely profitable gacha is what ever western company dreams off, problem is they're so far up their own ass that they ignore the ONE thing that would make it a success.
And that one thing is hyper focusing on the people you want to play your game, coomers, yumes, yuri, cunny lovers, gun nuts, doesn't matter, just go all in and you'll win.
