You are right that the message of the story IS shallow as fuck. But the game, via the pretentious presentation, wants the audience to think that it is deep. It tugs at the audience with sad music and emotional manipulation so you turn off your brain and don't think "Wait, that owl bitch murdered thousands of Ori's relatives, burned down the forest and extincted species like the Gumon, and now we're supposed to be happy that Ori is taking care of her kid and has a happy mural of her in his house honoring her."

If you found any part of Ori emotionally moving you are a certified idiot.

MGS3 is his best game but also his best story, precisely because it's straight up James Bond with fantasy elements. All the rest drips pseudo intellectualism.

Truly a shitshow. Despite being antifun and anticreative from the start some people managed to abstract some rules and make their own fun, and additional ad hoc rules were added (just arbitrarily bypassing the previous mechanics) to prevent that.

The problem with Ori 1 is it can't decide if Kuro is supposed to be a force of nature or a character. A force of nature doesn't need forgiveness or reason, but Kuro is shown repeatedly to be choosing their actions and ultimately "redeeming" themselves with a noble sacrifice.

And its wrong, sometimes this isn't more to people than their actions, if their actions overwhelm everything else about it. Kuro genocided Ori's race, the Gumon race, destroyed the forest and only changed her mind when her own interests were threatened.

Its not a message about not continuing a cycle of revenge, because Ori was never after revenge at all, and Kuro got everything they wanted revenge-wise until the very end.
