Because all of the rendering tech in the world doesn't make up for a complete dearth of actual artistic talent.

bethesda being bethesda, and this means releasing games without testing them, for this part will be done by the players and the modders.

I know jeets will cry in this thread that top is a pre rendered cutscene, while bottom is an actual gameplay, but there is a TWENTY YEARS gap between both games!
I remember when five years was a huge difference between game graphics.

tldr: jeets can not into coding

the top isn't pre rendered, it's in engine, you can change clothes and they change in the cutscene

This is just an artstyle that might look unappealing to some, it looks 1000 times better than Bethesda's shit graphics.

These first two posts succinctly describe why. Technology simply can't replace talent.

Bethesda has always sucked. Their games have always had bad graphics and bad gameplay.
The Witcher 2 (2011) already had better graphics than Skyrim (2011).
Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) also looks far better than Starfield (2023).
Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023) also looks better than Starfield or Oblivion Remastered(2025)
Expedition 33 (2025) looks better than both Starfield (2023) and Oblivion Remastered too.
Hell, The Witcher 3 (2015) still looks better than Starfield and Oblivion Remastered (2025).

Basically yes. Supposedly, I haven't played Starfield and never will, it's so dull and shit and poorly made it's just not worth it. What were Bethesda thinking? Open world games, to keep engagement, you need something to happen or to see or explore every 30-60 seconds. Bum around in Skyrim in any direction you'll find a cave to explore, a ruin to clear, and a hamlet to visit. In Starfield you'll be greeted with endless loading screens only to land on empty planets where you have to run for minutes in one direction to get to one point of interest.
