I wanna write a fantasy story someday about a loli mage apprentice in a race to sneak a magical artifact out of a sinking abandoned city of towers in the sky full of hostile, living dolls as it slowly plummets into a vast sea of living flesh that blemmyes, sciapods, and cyclopes, etc. are crawling out of. Leading the menagerie of abominations is the last surviving elder giant (think a giant head with really, really long arms and legs connected to it) seeking the artifact so it can feed it to the Axis Mundi (i.e. the sea of living flesh) to birth a living god to lead them to replace humanity. Basically, I just want an excuse to have a setting where naked misshapen muscular man-monsters fight extremely aggressive, sentient dolls and abandoned mechanical abominations while a cute loli has to scamper through the chaos and escape with her life. Ionno, still thinking about specific plot beats I wanna see incorporated. I know I wanna have a living bridge that she has to cross. Hairs as large as pine trees and gaping pours where living arms covered in wriggle out to snatch unsuspecting prey to rip apart to attach new limbs onto themselves, etc. The tower itself being a giant supercomputer that an ancient race uploaded itself into so they can live forever in a virtual endless paradise called the Pleroma, with the doll guards being uploaded consciences of people born within the Pleroma. An unfathomably vast number of virtual people live within it. Ionno, I need to read more Pliny and find books on the Great Work and shit.

I loved the Gamecube game, and I always pick her when I play Mario Kart 8, so that'll be it for me. U is actually where that bit of inspiration came from! Something about there being a primordial sea where large-scale protozoic, dumb, limbs crawling out of a subterranean flesh sea is insanely cool. Really, the entire aesthetic of U is cool. Goes without saying Hellenika is my all-time favorite modpack and the sole reason I have hundreds of hours in Dom5. Shame I fucking suck as U though. Never really figured out how to get things rolling, so I'd always get stomped by AI.

I will be able to eventually. I toil away at cubes, circles and triangles for now. All I have is an apple pencil my sister gifted me and my iPad. I'm new to digital art as well as learning proper drawing concepts (only doodled alot in 8th grade)t. How do you guys recommend approaching this? Can I just use the books on /ic/ and just do that but digitally as well?

It really differs from person to person. Going by the books and "grinding" the fundamentals can get you a solid foundation going forward, but it can be extremely boring and dull when done in excess. Some people learn better with the grinding while some people learn better by straight up tackling bigger pieces each time, learning as they go.

The way I usually recommend approaching it is to do it as you would learn a new language. Understand a little of the building blocks and then slowly put it to use as you go. There's no *wrong* way of doing it, but as long as you're mindful of it and keep on doing it, you'll see improvement.

don't forget to also draw stuff you like and redraw those freehand (obviously) and then from memory after or the next day. like if you were studying hands and how they look one day, then next day you try similar or the same poses from memory as training. but shapes is good for training, even for getting warm.

the most important thing though is to stay on the ball. just keep at it and try to have fun. listen to music, watch toons in the background etc, try to make it a joyous experience.

People tell me all the time how much they appreciate finding someone with as much enthusiasm and love for the things I draw. Granted, they're all pedophiles but still. What I'm trying to say is, it's all about expressing yourself through your art and the cathartic release of those pent up wants, emotions, and desires as you put tangible picture to imaginary form. It's just as much the process of drawing that, while painful at times, as it is the final product! If you put so little of yourself into your art, it will always be soulless, regardless of the quality.

Alternate between studying and drawing for fun. Give your brain about 12-24 hours to retain/recall knowledge after a long study session. You can improve results by hand-writing notes as you learn things while studying. Handwritten notes stick better in your brain for some reason.

Just doodle anything. Don't think, just start making stick figures or something. The hardest part is getting the ball rolling. Once you overcome that initial inertia and get the creative juices flowing, you'll be able to get into actual drawing. Also look into the separation between how the left and right brain approach creative tasks. You're probably unintentionally switching to left brain mode.

If you want to draw architect stuff, you learn the fundamental of architecture drawing from real life architecture. If you want to draw anime girls, you learn how other mangaka draw anime girls.
Anyway, it's not as simple as shapes and lines. You need to decide where to put the line and shape in relation with other line and shape. It's something you cannot learn from rudimentary skill grinding

There are lot more anons using the site than posting. They are what old schoolers (like me, been here since 2004) like to call lurkers. That means there is audience. The art sites and social media sites have like/fav buttons to easily show you like something, you don't need to type anything.

The problem is that you and many other tie your feel of success to have few handful anons to actually click your post, come up something to comment, click reply, type it and post. You are expecting some random anon to validate you and your art. If you want engagement, brand yourself, make your art available to your target audience, receive the dopamine from likes, attention, comments and contacts.

I actually drew the main character a while back too, when I was first starting off on drawing! She's an apprentice mage (actually a homunculus implanted with false memories designed solely to serve as a base for the Great Work) who's solely focused on completing the Great Work, which she affectionately refers to as the 'Good Job'. She's terrible at magic, but is loyal and surprisingly strong and fast despite how she looks. Still, she's obsessed with magic and obsessively tries to use magic despite it backfiring on her 90% of the time.
