I prefere singleplayer.
Multiplayer is too chaotic and unpredictable. In singlkeplayer, I feel more in control.
I always get anxious about contributing less to th team than my partners so I play way too recklessly and die. My usual playstyle is very slow and careful.
Also, I never meet people who are the same skill level as me. Most people I know irl are casuals and play worse than me, while most people online are better than me.
Overall, singleplayer is just a more chill experience.

But sometimes multiplayer can be fun even if I take it a lot less seriously than singleplayer.

I hate having to be in touch with friends and having to be available to play a game with them regardless of if I like the game or not. The only time this doesn't matter for me is if its a party game where there is little to no competitiveness and fun goes above anything else.

With singleplayer games I can focus entirely on myself with no fear of someone judging my skills or experience with the game. Everything I can learn by myself so my own skills are improving unless I decide to look something up.

I find that setting firm boundaries and enforcing them (took some practice) as well as a lot of self defense and legal study helped me out. I don't rely on others, I always have two backup plans, I can disappear at the drop of a hat, I'm armed in ways nobody would expect, and I go to the gym to ensure I'm physically stronger than 95% of the rest of humanity.
