FF8 would have made far more sense if Seifer and Rinoa switched places in the story after the island attack and leaving thr garden. Remember that Time Kompression mashed together a lot of timelines with varying outcomes into one unified whole, and those effects are reflected in the story long before you even know what Time Kompression is. The Rinoa that went batshit is one that got turned over after the space ride and was never rescued by Squall. It's specifically why one of the last things Rinoa says on the space ride is echoed by Ultimecia when she's near death in the final battle.
