I just found it a lot less fun to explore than OoT. OoT was kind of light on discoveries and characters but it made up for it in varied locations and the feel of each area. The only area I feel like I really enjoyed more in TP was Lake Hylia. Also, the intro is brought up a lot as being way too long, and it deserves that reputation. It's a long slog of unnecessary tutorials and overly long exposition before you even begin to do anything that involves gameplay. There have been a few times over the years that I might have replayed TP but didn't just because I didn't feel like plowing through the opening

What I like about OoT is that it's compact. Each area is just large enough to represent its idea, and it makes the game nothing more than a series of "towns" and "outdoor areas" which characterize the world, with a sense that there's way more outside the bounds of the game than inside it.
TP's world can feel nice but what kills it to me is how Hyrule Field is broken up in 4 chunks in the center. The more you have to ride across these locations the more dead and isolated it begins to feel to me, because it starts to sink in. Ocarina of Time doesn't do that because you've always run out of the area by the time it makes an impression. And Breath of the Wild is better because the entire game is about making the "nothingness" of its world feel somehow as if there's much more to it than what's directly stated.

You hit it right on the head. I just didn't have fun moving around TP's overworld as I did in OoT. AlttP is another really good expample of a good overworld that's easy and interesting to traverse. TP doensn't hold a candle to how uninteresting Skyward Sword's exploration is. I actively disliked trying to move around and explore the mostly empty and uninteresting sky islands. The same argument could be said for Wind Waker but I enjoyed that a lot more for whatever reason

Idk sailing around just felt really fun in a way that flying around in Skyward Sword. Music is part of it, but I love sailing around at night as well. Wind Waker is just a super positive and feel-good game (for the most part) that I can't help but enjoy soaking in the world. I felt no such love with Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword does have redeeming factors, like some of the best dungeons in the series and a very good Zelda

There's a reason the Magic Armor exists, there's basically no other funnel for money in the game. Ocarina of Time's own money was largely irrelevant after you got Zora and Goron Tunics unless you wanted a Giant's Knife, and the "ehhh? you broke the whole curse? really? uhhhh ok, here's infinite money forever" final reward for Gold Skulltulas was its own version of BOTW awarding you a golden shit if you got all the korok seeds. Majora's Mask had more money funnels than OoT did, Wind Waker had Tingle's map translations. Twilight Princess meanwhile I guess refill on bombs or arrows once in a very great while, but otherwise your biggest money sinks are gonna be the Hylian Shield, Hawkeye, changing bomb types, and the Magic Armor itself.

that is one improvement across multiple games that would make all of them better: the fuckin rupees. Rupees are a garbage reward for anything since their uses are so limited in most Zelda games. OoT is probably the worst, and getting rupees in that game felt like an insult. It's nice that they only locked the Skulltula heart piece at 50, since the final reward of unlimited money is basically worthless at that point. Like give us a cool overpowerd ability or something like the ability to see enemy health. Thankfully rupees gradually became a good reward later on in the series

I actually brought up the final Skulltula reward for that reason, the game was already kind of aware the Rupee economy was worthless past buying potions and one-time-only-if-you're-not-a-retard-who-gets-eaten-by-Like-Likes gear purchases. You end up needing money so rarely that for a game of Ocarina of Time's length I'm not really bothered by it.
