Nintendo games have been overly corporate lately, and they come and go without making much of an impact.
But there's also the fact that we're living in a time where there's a fucking excess of products to "consume". Unless the game is a huge phenomenon like Elden Ring, which had dozens of threads that lasted for weeks here, you're going to see things come and go and be forgotten because no one has the time to focus on a single game anymore.

after release is the time most people actually play a game. haven't you seen steam concurrent user graphs? they always spike after release and gradually tail off

it's obvious why if you think about it, most people who are interested in playing a game in the first place will hear about the game before its release and want to play it the first chance they get to

it's only people who are less interested in a game that might get around to playing it way later, and those people could do that anytime - there's no concentration effect like there is just after release where everyone plays at the same time. Those less-engaged people are also less likely to go online and talk about it, they're just not as passionate about the game in general
