This is exactly how it was for me, too. Well, BXtra instead of Walmart, but same difference. After being disappointed so many times by more expensive jewel cases, to get that combo was truly a diamond in the rough moment.

For sure. I was introduced to FreeSpace via the jewelcase version with the Silent Threat expansion, and the next month the big box for FreeSpace 2 was discounted to $20. I can still feel remnants of the afterglow of that find, such a rush.

My introduction to Morrowind was in a pack-in disc collection for a graphics card or some other piece of hardware I bought, the kind that has the string of single plastic sleeves that rolls up on itself. I remember it was that and Ghost Recon, can't remember the others.

Still the best jrpg made by a western studio. I heard the speed mod and various qol mods makes even better though.

I was enjoying it for a while, but areas like that ruined it for me

At least you don't have limited ammo for your characters that use firearms, so it's an annoyance rather than potentially gamebreaking.

I think you can skip encounters in some areas, you don't need to fight all of them, you just gotta wait for their patrol paths
