You're thinking of SNES Shadowrun, not Genesis. Jake Armitage is the MC from SNES and he's in Returns. Genesis Shadowrun has you play as a guy called Joshua who hasn't reappeared in any Shadowrun media since to my knowledge. Kinda weird that they chose to canonize the SNES game when it has a lot more problems integrating itself into the canon than the Genesis game does, but the SNES game was probably just more popular. I've beaten both and I like both.
