Why would you buy this when emulation exists ?

and why isn't backwards compatibility just standard on consoles like the wii and xbox

Because Sony tried it with the PS3 and people complained about the price. It wasn't the only thing that drove up the price but it was one of them. I wish Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft sold premium editions of their consoles that contained some form of native backwards compatibility. Personally, I would buy it if they did. But I doubt normies would. It just won't justify the cost.

I loved Pro Skater on the N64.
Isn't this just an 'updated' version? Or what is it missing from the original?

I dunno the kinda shit that a lot of people come into these threads to complain about but for me it's the total removal of career mode from Tony 4.
In Tony 1-3 the way the game usually works if you're on a level with a 2 minute time limitwith a variety of objectives to complete like collecting letters, doing tricks in certain spots or attaining a high score.
In Tony 4 however you had career mode. every level was free roam with a variety of mission givers scattered around with missions that added or changed parts of the environment. Even sometimes changing the gameplay like a baseball minigame or charging down hills in a shopping cart avoiding obstacles. You would also collect money pickups and get skill points from missions to upgrade your character.
All of that is gone in favour of the old 2 minute time limit with copy pasted objectives from the previous games. Also with the absence of a couple noteworthy parks this remake is less of an updated collection of both games and moreso a remake of Tony 3 with a map pack of some parks from 4.
