I don't think it actually does imply Golbez is the shard, just a strange narrative framing device or even a purposeful red herring. Your own character isn't perfectly silent themselves, for example (nor really is Golbez, he's speaking a lot "off-camera") and the actual personality of Golbez isn't really gone into past that he was heroic, while Zero gets a whole once-over about being a dogooder even while actively playing stupid about what friendship or hospitality are. There's also that, as far as Final Fantasy 4's plot would care, it's Durante taking the name of Golbez that actually serves the role of Golbez as a character, same as Zero serves the role of Cecil. Golbez (the real one) was also strong but didn't seem to have any kind of notorious strength, and there's also that he wasn't immune to corruptive influence, so he wasn't a Warrior of Light or in the running for it the way Ardbert and sort-of Zero were.

Yeah he was one of the best characters in the game. He is exactly how you write "I just want the world to burn for my own selfish gains", and Fandaniel is the improper way to write such a character. This is why Fandaniel was cringe and Zenos was based. Zenos uses facts and logic to counter people crying about him, asserting his indomitable will and confidence and he was ultimately beaten by counter-argument. Zenos is intelligent and logical, so when Alisae pointed out a hole in his logic he gave it deep thought and ultimately agreed with her instead of lashing out like a baby, like how everyone else does when they lose. Thus he acknowledged his only gift to the world is that anyone strong enough to face him gets to enjoy facing him because it will be an epic battle, and he has no other use than that.

How do lorelets STILL get this wrong? Emet isn't Zenos's biological granddaddy (he even says as much in that one short story where his son dies), Emet bodyjacked some Garlean dude and took on his identity and reconstructed his face to look like himself (something he said he did when he went to the First to encounter you). He then proceeded to impregnate some Garlean woman using this man's seed. Varis and Zenos are this man's, not Emet's, biological progeny.

The only argument that can be made is that Emet's soul left traces of itself in the children he bore using Solus's body and somehow that passed from his son Varis to Zenos (which I think is retarded but whatever). I swear most of the playerbase barely paid attention to the story (as this is far from the only part of the lore that's frequently misinterpreted, the Zodiark Trancers being the worst example of this in the FFXIV community)

Here's a breakdown by expansion of how many hours of cutscenes there are, it even breaks down the post patch stories too.

Endwalker had the most at 24 hours of cutscenes
Heavensward had the least at 8 hours.
Dawntrail in comparison had 21 hours of cutscenes (base Dawntrail).
As you say, it was dar, far too many for the story they were presenting.
Endwalker earned the time because it was the end of 10 years of stories/ end of an arc. But even then it did feel long and poorly paced in places, but it should have been an exception not the rule for Dawntrail to follow.

I'd agree that it would be rather hackish to drop everything they planned for and immediately pivot to something safe that they know the players will enjoy, but there's a difference between doing that and trying to improve according to player feedback. Understanding where and why the writing failed, and taking steps to not do that.
As far as abandoning Wuk, that needs to be done as a symbolic gesture more than anything. DT soiled people's view of her even if it wasn't directly her fault, it would take either time (Her being written out of the story for a bit) or a symbolic death (Like the Crystal Braves were for Alphinaud) for people to be able to start coming around to her, even if the writing improved. She'd still be seen as a reminder.

I started suspecting it when she found the strength to fight those voidsent in Garlemald. You arrive just in time to help her, but that sheer determination, that almost invincible willpower to save as many people as possible, and ultimately using it to stop Golbez (and transforming into the hero the shard was waiting for) shows that she has all the potential to become like the WoL, or at least on a similar power level. We don't even know what her real storyline was supposed to be, since Yoship said there was a specific reason behind Zenos' special avatar. I don't think she is a fragment of the WoL (the original Golbez seems to be), but Hiroi really insisted that she was Important™ time and time again.
