Some very minor balance changes to OS upgrades. New models that are (mostly) better than the fan mod versions (notable exception being SHODAN's avatar model). But yes the rest is basically just a mod bundle. Also it has new bugs that need fixing.

Barely, you get the crystal and anal proliferator right before the end. You also get the crystal in UNN Polaris right before the end.

It strikes me as really shitty that one of the main problems with the exotic weapons in the base game is how late you get them and none of these campaign-length FMs thought to remedy that at all, just opted to ignore (or almost ignore) them.

You're gonna need at least 3-4 people autistic enough to get started on one, and that means learning the shovelware that is DromEd/ShockEd, and with as little in their lives going on as possible to finish it in a reasonable amount of time. It's definitely jumping off the deep-end, since SS2 has so many additional systems and mechanics that you need to account for. Cyber modules/RPG opportunities, making sure you're not putting too many or too little resources, setting up enemy encounters, keycards, battery doors, ect. And then you have shit that cannot be edited entirely in the editor like audio logs where you need to edit the strings. And thats just the modding part, you need custom portraits and voices for the audio logs too, another anon a few threads ago mentioned he wouldnt mind voiceless logs, realistically thats probably the way to go. Im hoping that FMeditor might be easier/more accessible when it gets SS2 support, but theres definitely a reason as to why Blind Disposition was the most recent SS2 FM, and why its almost a decade old now.

I wonder what the best format is for a System Shock 2 single level FM. The game is obviously designed around an entire campaign with its stats and skills but it's unreasonable to expect every fan mission author to make something of the quality of a Christine campaign, it's probably a big reason why SS2 has so few FMs compared to Thief 1 & 2.

I haven't actually played any of the non-campaign SS2 FMs yet to explore this concept, just Christine's three and RttUNN which are all multi level campaigns with enough time for character building.

So how do you go about a single level FM? Start with all your stats up and skip the cyber modules entirely? Make cyber module injections much higher? The game also doesn't lend itself to easy objective-making like Thief where you just tell the player to go steal something and they figure out the rest. Anyone got any actual thoughts on this?

There's an FM exactly like this on the SystemShock.org forum, FMProov. You have a fixed skill set and you basically just go around solving a bunch of logic puzzles and getting new gear through the level. It's honestly one of the most polished FMs and I recommend trying it but at that point it's just not the same game as SS2, in my opinion. The whole thing about SS2 that I like is the skill progression and being able to try different builds between runs,.

It's bottom tier. I've played through it 3-4 times just because I scrape the bottom of the barrel for SS2 content (outside of System Shock Infinite, that thing is just a puupturd and I dont recommend it at all), It's just very obviously an amateur project which I can't knock at all given how much of a turboautist you need to understand ShockEd, but it just doesn't change the fact that it feels jank and not very polished. Give it a go and you'll see what I mean. Also, read the thread on Systemshock.org, it's funny how the creator malds about constructive criticism. At least he took it to heart and made improvements in the end.

Christine's are like, 8's-10's out of 10's for me. RTTUNN is like a 6 or 7 depending on how Im feeling the day I play it. Blind Disposition is like a 4. I like the cyberspace level but overall it's too short and feels pretty directionless. It wouldn't have been bad as a first project but the guy who made it didnt stick around to make another one, understandably so.

Finished this a few days ago, it really ends with a wet fart. Going into the body of the Many was annoying and ugly, the giant human teeth moving up and down are so silly. The vision you have of the cavernous Many in Engineering looked so much cooler than the actual level. The Many in general are so poorly designed, I hope they're completely redesigned if there is ever a remake.

SHODAN's bossfight right after seems almost like an afterthought. Grenade launcher makes short work of everything.

I just beat ss2 as navy hacker man, was pretty fun. My only real issue is the same as SS2, the last level or so are just enemy gauntlets and I think both games are at their weakest when it's just combat onslaughts.

I sort of get what they were going for and I'm not against it. The japanese inspired origin in Shodan I don't think is ever mentioned in-game so the kimono might be odd if left untouched. But they should've had the edges of her "hair" fade. At least you'd get a more hologram look. The original probably couldn't for technical reasons, no reason to keep it now.
