There's thousands of games per year, just like back then. All those awful TV-based video games or ridiculous Company-based games like that Captain Crunch game where you fed some furball. Games take longer to come out, not as many big name Studios, but plenty of Indie dev's are still releasing wonderful games.
Now, this is /v/, and a lot of people here just don't play games at all. But even if we consider the longer wait for releases, I think the "percentage" is roughly still the same.
