Know what's weird? As a kid when the game first came out I didn't really feel much from any of the emotional scenes from FF7. I just thought it looked really god damn cool constantly. I replayed it as an adult and felt what I think how I was supposed to during these moments. For example my first playthrough I benched Aeris so her death was "okay whatever" but on my repeat playthrough kept her on and when that part hit I was genuinely saddened. I think age has turned me into a bigger pussy is what I'm trying to say I think. Good game. Would suggest.

For me, I’m just shocked how hideous this game is when I come back now lol. Possibly the ugliest of the “all time great games.” I guess that’s the nature of chasing that dragon though

the chibi field models are so Good. I love them.
But the battle models aren't very good. the baked in shading is sloppy and doesn't have enough roundness & depth.
he was trying too hard to imitate the 2D concept art. but these are not 2D, they're 3D and as a result the textures just look flat. especially on cloud and yuffie. plus the battle models for 99% of the enemies are not done meaning the art looks even more inconsistent.
