I don't remember what's available early too well, but you should basically digivolve as fast as you can at the start to get easy stat boosts when you don't really need a high level Digimon yet.

DotFalcomon is worth grabbing because he boosts exp gain, but the others aren't really notable. They're basically the Defender Weapons from Monster Hunter, they have way higher stats than their counterparts at first and good selection of traits compared to everything else available at the moment. I wouldn't grab the others until later, same with the Legend Equipment which are way too strong for early game.

Also unrelated but holy shit there's a randomised/QoL patch for dusk/dawn apparently.

The maps are mazes, that's the biggest flaw of the ds games. Good tilesets, but horrible layouts.
The problem with changing exp, scan rate, encounters, etc is that they don't exist in a vacuum. Even if you think the rates they went with were horrible in the official version, that doesn't mean just upping the numbers will fix it. As an example it'd be like modding World 1 to have 10 times the stat growth rate. You may have an easier time levelling or digivolving, but now you're way out of the league of the enemies and the rest of the game's balance goes to shit.

the main flaw of the DS games aside from the astronomical encounter rate (and the lack of a way to turn them off), is how long it takes to fucking scan digimon (~2 secs per enemy). that and the copious amounts of menuing to set up your party. using the farm is torture since you need to transfer your mons 1 by 1, train, then transfer them back, and re-equip them. and you have no way to quickly sort stuff so you're gonna have to scroll through lists over and over

The farms did get progressively easier to manage, that's a fact. Both in terms of their usage and UI, you don't even have to put your main party into it anymore because you can load Digimon into them to gain stats instead.

Not really They still function the same way and most people aren't going to naturally abuse something blatant like mass loading/converting repeatedly, at best they'll do that in preparation for the Paltinum/Legend Tamer battles which are fucking bullshit and need more than max stats. Dracomon's line debuted in World Championship, but is normally unavailable before you beat the game and unlock the area where you can catch him.
However, Otamamon and Dracomon share the same Baby II form. So, if you wanted to use Slayerdramon or Breakdramon in the campaign, the way to do it was to catch an Otamamon, neglect it to death (ideally you set up a torture room full of rotten meat and make it sit there after you have it fight Megas/Ultimates so it that gets badly injured), and hope the baby form evoles into Dracomon's baby form.
If it doesn't work, delete the thing, catch another Otamamon, rinse and repeat. Maybe you can also save scum it, but I'm not sure if time-based evolutions like those of baby stages are pre-determined in World Championship.
Ever since I learned of this, Otamamon became one of my favorites, partially out of pity.
