>>715260774 (OP)>Explain why you don't own a steamdeckBecause I don't need one.
I don't really need a machine just for playing games on the go. I have my actual PC for when I want to game, and for when I am traveling, I mostly want to games that I can play in short bursts - things that don't require a lot of resources. So I just use my laptop, since that can run the games I want to play while traveling and can also be used a work machine.

I already got a pc
steam deck launched with compromise lcd screen
Oled launched when the device was starting to show its age and new games would struggle on it
steam deck 2 might be a good handheld if it launches with oled and works as a backup pc
I don't travel enough for me to warrant getting one. Even when i do, a laptop is always a better option.

>>715264596get a fucking job trump will remove gibs soon (i dont support it but its facts at this point)
>>715264202I wonder what is valve's strategy with the deck 2. Valve knows that once they announce a deck 2, it will create some kind of release schedule and people will base the purchasing around it, even having deck 3 & 4 in mind.
Also it seems valve is cautious with the production, making sure they don't have extra units unsold.
I'm not a big fan of the form factor and would like a new version that is compatible with retroid's upcoming dual-screen add-on and has improved specs.
Why would you need to travel to justify getting a Steam Deck? Playing on it and playing on a laptop are different experiences.
>>715264512i got one of these recently and it feels miles better to use than my actual xbone controller i use for my pc
>>715264707I think the continued message of "don't worry about the next one" and making the next one only when it makes sense will do them good. >>715266475The 30 year old gamer on gibs doesn't exist the way boomers who fell for it again think it does. The 30 and 40 somethings on gibs are either severely physically/mentally disabled or they got laid off during the great recession and are clever enough to get a doctor's note and thus the system already thinks they are severely disabled.

>>715260774 (OP)it will get obsolete quick, just like ps5 and the xbox whatever its called
they released when new better technology was improving faster than they were developing, now they are outdated, worst gen ever to buy
for another example, its like early rtx cards with early dlss, they got outdated in like a year? with better versions of the same techs and chips
Valve will release a better deck, probably soon, and competition is also making some advancements
i just hope portability is one of those, most handheld "pc" now are NOT portable
>>715260774 (OP)I already have a PC, so I don't see the point of a Steam Deck.
>>715267390>waaa why isn't a handheld as powerful as a desktop PC and why is linux hard>>715268440This, but when it comes to emulation it is the best in the market when it comes to that sort of thing.
>>715261351trannies love the deck albeit
unless you're saying that trannies support trump, in which case you'd be correct in that only the mentally ill voted for him
>>715260774 (OP)I do, and it mostly collects dust outside of a handful of games. The idea of a PC handheld that can play anything is cool in theory, but in practice, for most games, I'd rather be playing on my PC with a normal controller or KB+M. For emulating old games, I'd rather have a lighter, smaller handheld. The Steam Deck straddles an awkward middle-ground for me that pretty much consists of indie/roguelike slop (which I'm terribly bored of right now) and the occasional emulated PS2 game.
>>715268850I use it for PSX/PS2 rpgs. Can't remember anything else I've ever used it for.

Well I'm currently saving/training for several trips to Japan, China Australia and SE Asia through 2026 to 2030 as well as several matches of the World Cup in 2026.
The World Cup stuff is pretty self-explanatory, the travels though, is because I'm planning to walk the Shikoku Henro Trail, a 1200km route across the island of Shikoku in Japan, where Kobo Daishi or Kukai, who is the founder of Shingon Buddhism. His travels to China helped him decide on the structure of this Buddhist sect that became and still is the most popular form of Buddhism in the country, as well as the writing system of Hiragana. He's considered one of the most important figures in Japanese history, and around the 1600s a pilgrimage route along 88 (or 108 depending on if you include the Bekkaku) Temples was designed. These temples mark spots where legends tell the Kukai performed great tasks. He completed sculptures, sealed great snakes in mountains, and healed the sick. If you complete the route it is considered a means to ward against pain in fateful years. My latest would be in 2031, so it behooves me to complete the trail by then. Normally, most hikers can complete it with good health and a steady pace in two months. However, I have a leg injury that makes walking difficult, and will be going much slower.
My current plans are to take the trip in several smaller sections, in the spring and fall of 2026, 2028, and 2030 until I have completed the route. Along the way I will be visiting the extra inner temples, visiting different festivals and locales, such the Bull Sumo of Uwajima, or climbing Mt. Ishizuchi. In 2028 I plan to also travel to China to visit the temple in Xian that the Kukai learned Buddhism properly from, as well as other sights, then hopefully travel south to catch the eclipse in Australia that year, then return to Japan in the fall to continue.
Also I got an GBA Everdrive with a huge backlog, so I'm good on buying new stuff for a while. Wish me luck.
