Slow boring dogshit that requires no mechanical skill. Only autists who have already memorized all the level designs think this trial and error bullshit is good. It aged like milk.

stick to dark souls if you think skill should end at mechanics. you sound low iq and likely brown skinned

played it for the first time a few weeks ago, on Expert of course. Trial and error my ass, the game is designed to let you know via sound where all the enemies are located, if they are moving or not, the distance at which they are and so on. You are a shitter, a tafferboy incapable even of stealing a fucking wand from a manor full of drunk guards. Go back with your keeper daddies, bet they are missing your twinkboy bussy already.

It's sad because Thief is the only actual stealth game. Well maybe Splinter Cell too but I haven't played those. Thing is, lots of "stealth" games let you see your enemies on a radar or do shit like mark your enemies to see them behind walls. What the fuck is that? People claimed Dishonored was cool but I found it to be a boring and easy game because of the fucking super powers. Stealth games should be grounded and tense, not a power fantasy.

I can play Fan Missions totally blind and have no problem.

It just sounds like you haven't adjusted to how sound works in the game yet. You aren't supposed to crawl through the game like Splinter Cell. If you know the rules you can sprint through the game like a ninja. It takes a while because it has a steep learning curve, but once you are at a point where you can look at a room and work out how fast you can go, and if you sprint how much time you have to sprint before the NPC hears and gets alerted, then you become a stealth god.

I wish I hadn't the story spoiled to me before playing because that twist was actually cool. Love how the game sets it up, with Garret not giving a fuck about anything but his goal while it's all the worldbuilding what sets the stage.

Splinter Cell is extremely linear. It isn't until Chaos Theory that the levels open up, and even then it's not like Thief. Every area in Splinter Cell feels like a puzzle the devs specifically set up where you have 1-2 guards to deal with. I think it lends itself way more to ghosting because of this.
In Thief the guards move in and out of tons of rooms in a gigantic area and there are a LOT more guards in Thief. Ghosting is a really good way to make the game tedious, because it wasn't designed for that. Just the act of getting around without being detected itself is the challenge.

Mages Guild: a bit of a slog but still fun.
Song of the Caverns: actual kino. Love how it plays with expectations.

Thanks for posting this thread. It reminds me that if there's really brainrotten zoombies out there who hate this undisputed masterpiece just because it slightly challenges and inconveniences them, then it's ok that some people hate my own game for the same reasons. People like you are never going to have your minds changes, so your braindead opinions that you present as fact can be disregarded

the biggest issue I have with the way thief is typically played is that it really doesn't allow you to prioritize. you'd think the premise would lend itself to charting a smart course through the level that minimizes risk but if you want to meet those expert loot requirements then it's just assumed that you're going to go everywhere and do everything, put yourself at risk of every guard even if it's just some side hallway that has no likely reward and is redundant in terms of map access, there might be a trinket in a cabinet.

I'd say the first one is hard carried by the cool player character. I have a soft spot for Pandora Tomorrow - it's very short, with varied locations and my favorite variation of the pistol. Ghosting in Chaos Theory was fun, viable, and gave you the highest completion rating apparently, I played it several times and never felt like disturbing the enemies.

let me guess, you didn't play passed the first few levels?
Anonymous No.715289317
Let me guess. OP thinks Garrett has to crouch and crawl to be sneaky and doesn't know that you can just walk at a relatively fast pace and be extremely quiet. For some reason even supreme ghost youtubers don't use that very often. They even constantly tap the w key to stagger-crouch and reload if they miss and make an audible step, instead of simply holding down the walk button (just bind it to shift or alt). Why do people not know Garrett can walk? If you walk, while crouching you are completely inaudible. Walking is so much faster than crouching and it guarantees that you don't make noise when quickly going down the stairs or something.

Anon, you are talking to people, who played Thief to exhaustion and know about weird tricks like knocking out guards through doors and other stuff. They don't care about immersion anymore. Why hide from the guards and sneak throw mission, when you can bunny-hop everywhere and first knock out everyone, before engaging with the actual mission. They only care about breaking the mission and hate, when you put scary monsters and undead in fan missions.
