I always felt that Owlboy's art seemed a little too tryhard for me, to the point where it was distracting to look at. Like it's missing some sort of visual clarity, everything's too detailed. And then the gameplay was really boring too. So I'd probably go with the lower effort style

I'd put it in the middle to be quite honest with you family, I don't think Shovel Knight is that high effort. It looks nice enough and it's higher effort than something than Undertale, sure, but 8-bit/early 16-bit styles aren't that hard to replicate with a competent artist at the helm.
