Gamedev is too easy to make graphically "interesting" games because they're not bound by hardware anymore and the tools are easier to make things in.

Older games look like they have soul because the team behind it had limitations and an idea. They fit that idea as much as possible inside the limitations.
Without the limitations, we just have ideas that can't be achieved because they're too abstract.

PTDE has intact atmosphere simply because of the original lighting. The remastered is slightly washed out compared to the original. It doesn't have that bloom effect og did. It also has fucked up character shadows which makes him look out of scene with the enviroment. It's just worse.

Because DS1 set it to only affect *actually* distant stuff. You never notice it during actual gameplay, only when watching the scenery.
Most game have a "I'm paying of FoD, and I'm gonna get my money's worth" mindset and start the effect at like 10m so everything is covered in vaseline.

Yeah but the fire change is legitimate. The slow moving, long magic fire was an intentional design choice, which is easy to tell because there's various other fires in DS1 that don't look magical and laconic.
It's a clear indicator that the people behind it are inattentive, unobservant or don't care.
Demon's Souls remake has a million examples like this. If you're going to "re-imagine" something, don't introduce plot holes by doing it.

It's not just that fag. The remake isn't Demons Souls. There's nothing there from the original. Designs were fucking gutted from enemies, bosses, npcs and areas. Soundtrack is fucking generic choir shit. Gameplay barely changed except for omnidirectional rolling which makes the already easiest souls game even easier. The designs (artstyle) and music are what made DeS unique and they are gone.

Between console and PC, I easily have like 400 hours in PTDE. I have about 150 in Remastered.
Remastered is definitely a visual downgrade, but it isn't as though the atmosphere is completely shattered, either. Mods can get you like 90% of the way there, and given how PTDE's single-thread heavy code doesn't scale super well on UMPCs like the Deck, it's not the worst compromise to play Remastered that way.
