Some of the puzzles are insanely hard to figure out because you have to pay attention to some extremely tiny details, but other than that, it's incredible.

The game gives you very little information. I guess the puzzles themselves aren't hard, it's just piecing together all the little breadcrumbs, as you mentioned. THAT is what's really hard.

Here's one example: I knew you had to hide inside one of the giant jellyfish heads in order to get into the core of Giant's Deep. But if you touch the tentacles, you die. I tried ramming my ship into the head in the hopes of breaking it open or something, but nothing worked. The game does not properly explain that you have to go underneath it, touch the supposedly deadly tentacles, then swim upwards.
Not all of the puzzles were like that, but a few of them.

The only bullshit puzzle is the Ash Twin warp and thatโ€™s only because it spoils the entire game if you discover it too early. The way itโ€™s set up most players are likely to try it once and move on, leaving it as the last piece of the puzzle to come back to after exploring everything else.

I never realized this squares with the black and white holes in the middle were teleporters. I knew about the White Hole Station and the High Energy Lab, but I never connected those things with teleportation. The only thing that made me think "teleportation" was the spinning dial in White Hole Station, and I believe there's only one other dial like that (in the Black Hole Forge).

ATP still makes me seethe because it arbitrarily follows the rule that doesn't exist for itself. The point between the targeted warps is inside the planet itself. It makes no sense other than to be cute to have the warp activate with the other warps' logic.

Basically Space Detective Archaeologist. You explore the different planets, scan stuff, overcome obstacles to scan more stuff, check your ship log after scanning stuff to see how what happened in the past and how everything's connected, and eventually discover the true goal.

Do you like the sequel Riven? OW is more similar to Riven than Myst in that the puzzles are very integrated into the context of the game world, rather than seeming arbitrarily placed. I just used Myst in my initial example as it's more well-known.

If not, then give it a few more hours of gameplay; if it still doesn't gel with you, then it may just not be your kind of game, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I needed to look up how to do this specific part, as well. Found the Jellyfish in the bramble. Learned they could go through the core, but could not figure out how to use that info.

But really what stopped me was my intense fear of that planet with the storms and the core. Fuck, that was actually the scariest game I ever played, with my specific phobias. Kind of cool in that way, though. No other game has ever triggered my scale phobia or thallasophobia more than Outer Wilds. Sometimes I would realize I was coming into a planet too quickly (specifically the ocean planet) and would have to just shut my eyes or alt f4.

Remember that the buttons always activate the same thrusters, regardless of which direction you're facing. So if the ship is flat on the ground and you use the "upward" thruster, you'll move upward. But if the ship rotated downwards and you use the "upward" thruster, you'll accelerate towards the ground instead of going up.

I hate hide & seek/forced stealth sections, and I genuinely thought that the specific implementation in the DLC was especially retarded. I was playing with a friend around the same time and he just happened to accidentally tell me the gimmick secrets, so I just used those to solve the game and I'm glad I did. Didn't even finish the actual sections.

I got filtered on two and only solved them by brute force and getting lucky
the transport tower to the sun station thing and staying still to get past the fish. I later realised a hint was given earlier for that one. Also the crumbling planet one I half count since I simply flew in the hole and crashed at the top, and only realised that was wrong much later

I beat the quantum moon puzzle by accident, the one where in order to reach the eye location, the tower has to be on one of the poles (I forget which one). I only learned the actual method later on. The puzzle which stumped me but felt so good when I finally realized how to solve it was getting in the tower at Brittle Hollow. The solution just hit me like a ton of bricks and felt so obvious in hindsight.

It's essentially a looping space detective game. All progress is built on knowledge. It'll take you 12-20 hours to finish the game, but you'll finish the final run in 10-15 minutes. It's why going in blind is so important. If you have any of the game spoiled for you, it will severely hamper your experience.

Philosophically, the game is about endings and beginnings. It's about letting go to embrace something new. It's about how trying to chase the feeling of "first times" is a fruitless endeavor. It's about real growth. Do everything you can to truly engross yourself and get sucked in. The ending ties everything together, & if you aren't invested, it won't really hit you the way it did to so many. It's legitimately one of the best experiences ever put into vidya, and I'm comfortable saying it IS the best depending on the day.

Donโ€™t really understand when people complain about flying. Once youโ€™re in space proper you can set a destination and auto pilot to where youโ€™re going. Also have to remember to use your landing camera and to use the โ€œmatch velocityโ€ button. As for oxygen and fuel, non of the locations are so large that you should be running out often.

A couple of puzzles being slightly obtuse in execution because they involve awkward controls and not enough leeway doesn't change the fact that all of the puzzles are braindead shit that don't require you to do any external thinking.

I tried out Lorelei the other day, I'm at 80% done and I don't know if I can't be bothered going back to it. It was still better than Outer Wilds because the math puzzles at least required me to think for a second, instead of being purely exploration based "find breadcrumb, go where breadcrumb tells you" shit.

I swear 90% of people that complain about the flying in this game just fundamentally don't understand conservation of momentum or frames of reference. They point their ship at the the thing they want to fly to and hold down the thruster the whole way, then blame the controls when they blast past their target at a million miles per hour and take ten years to change their trajectory.

It's more of a curiosity/narrative game than anything. The puzzles all mostly involve reading lore to learn about how the game world works and then adding 2-3 pieces of information together to figure out how to do something. It doesn't have logic puzzles or anything like that.

I don't particularly care about puzzle games and it's one of my favorite games. I thought flying around the solar system was really fun, and the exploration provided an excuse to do a lot of that, which got me hooked. You just kind of end up solving puzzles along the way.

I like puzzle games and I thought it was far too braindead for a puzzle game. It's myst for zoomers, essentially. There's a big wide world, but it's puddle deep.

I think most people would enjoy it on some level, it's a solid 7/10 game.

I played through most of the game in multiplayer with two friends because we're all retards, and this was infuriating. I understood the puzzle, I deduced the solution with finding the jellyfish hidden away in Dark Bramble, but my friends kept insisting we go about it in the worst ways possible and then refused to go back because the cycle ended as they were ramming the ship into the jellyfish. I kept trying to tell them that I wanted to swim up inside the jellyfish and they just wouldn't listen.

Lighting the lanterns in the DLC took me fucking forever, but I didn't need to look up the answer. I don't know why, I just never put the pieces together. The one that actually filtered me was getting past the alarm in the diving bell. I was simply on the wrong track for way too long.

The final puzzle is stupidly hard, intentionally.
>>715283318
Shit like this is annoying, it doesnโ€™t explain some aspect well.
For the final puzzle, I had the right idea, but they intentionally maybe the timing very specific to prevent someone accidentally solving it, except I had learnt (incorrectly) that you CANโ€™T fight the sand pull from the twin planet so either it would work or I was doing it wrong.
The DLC was so much better, nothing was unnecessarily convoluted because they didnโ€™t need to โ€œhideโ€ the solution
Tunic had the same problem: it was never made clear TIMING was important, I was doing multiple โ€œpuzzlesโ€ wrong and I could only assume I was miss inputting, until I read online that you should write it out and do it quickly. I had no indication time was a factor
All they had to do was add a chime if I took too long to indicate the โ€œmagicโ€ was fading or something

>The DLC was so much better, nothing was unnecessarily convoluted because they didnโ€™t need to โ€œhideโ€ the solution
Well, it's layered differently. Part of the beauty of the base game is the freedom, and that when you know what you're doing, you can get around the system easily and quickly. Once you have gathered enough information, you can end the game right there. But the DLC needs you to find 3 pieces of information that all require you to delve through the entirety of The Stranger, so there's no gating necessary. I don't really know if I'd say better designed, both are good I think.

>Entire DLC was made way easier as a result

Apparently none of my friends figured anything out until the slideshows explained it, and some of them even dropped the DLC because the "owls were too scary". I usually can't stand horror games either. I'm happy how my playthrough turned out.

I forced myself through this because everyone said it was a masterpiece. I fucking hated the ending and the game itself was mediocre.

I went through all that effort only to find out I wasted all my time and didn't enjoy any of it.

Honestly if you aren't sure the game is for you just watch some walk through at 4x speed. You won't miss anything.

It's a crapshoot. This exact same sticking point got me too. The people arguing against you are too stupid to understand the midpoint would be inside the planet itself. Most charitable interpretation is that the interior of the mechanism is also spinning at some rate and the Nomai just timed the sync between that interior spinning teleporter and the teleporter on the planet surface to the planet to planet teleporter arbitrarily.

The clues tell you that much. The dumb part is that if you stand on the teleporter you get lifted by sand, and the solution is to run onto the teleporter while the dangerous sand is already flowing through it so you get lifted slightly less. I assumed your feet had to be touching the ground for the teleporter to activate so I never tried running on to it.

You can have the scout open the wormhole visibly when you place it. on the teleporter pad (since the scout doesn:t get picked up by the sandfall) but the scout is severely underused in that way prom all the playthroughs I've seen. I reckon 80% of players don't know about it being useful for tracking surface integrity for both the Brittle Hollow pieces or the Dam in the DLC
