>>715281287To my understanding from watching with my kids, they have basically full control provided they have fuel, so the crew on the train are there to tell Thomas and co. What to look out for/be aware of.
For example, the green tank engine gets a paintjob and refuses to leave a tunnel/his home because it's raining and he doesn't want to ruin his neat paint. Another instance is Thomas "racing" the local bus or trolley or whatever they call it. Another is Thomas or Percy trying to be as strong as Gordon and they end up carrying more cargo than they can reasonably transport.
>>715280194 (OP)I only watched the first one and really the last one is the only acceptable one for a kids show.

>>715300135It looks better in motion. It's literally cheap plastic with eyes that move, just toys moving around on screen, so it doesn't come off as weird. It got much worse when they went CGI.
>>715300309Top professional child soul fucker uppers carefully removed anything even tangentially soulful from the show to ensure that children watching it would not be inspired or left to their own imagination. >>715300703bitch turned into Jerma
>>715300203What fucking correlation are you seeing there? I disliked Thomas because it was a lame ass design, why the fuck would I love other "put a face on a random object" cartoons?
So, my kids are obsessed with Thomas, but I personally can't stand the new style. I, too, was one of those kids that was put off by the weird faces, but All Engines Go completely eliminates any of the realism. The trains are all made of rubber and they can bounce around the tracks and extend their wheels like fucking Speed Racer. It makes all the moments when they suddenly become glued to the track for dramatic tension silly. They need to pull levers to change tracks directions, but they can also just hop onto the next track or do complete 180s. A tree is blocking the track, but they regularly jump over each other so they're lined up properly for the next shot. Thomas freaking off roads in one of the movies like he could have done that all along.
The lack of drivers and the Fat Controller's diminished presence also means the majority of conversations are amongst the trains themselves, and they facilitates this by having ludicrous amounts of tracks lined up all over the island. There are frequently three, four, five lanes all bunched together so the trains could realistically talk to each.
It's like, way even have them be trains at that point? They just wanted to use the brand for recognition while they make their shitty FiM knock-off. None of the personalities really transfer over. Gordon is now the adult of all the other kid trains and orders them around more than Topham Hat. And they added three new girl boss trains that are better than everyone at everything as well as an autistic train. Yes, he is literally autistic.
Toby is super based. He's the best engine and I won't hear otherwise.
If engines could game, Henry would be king of Xbox Live
>>715300135I'm a zoomie and loved watching it while growing up. It's a really comfy show and I like the toys. I feel the show threw away its main selling point the more it got animated.

>>715300309Modern children's programming devolved into elsagate tier garbage in the corporate pursuit of making cheap and effective kids slop. It now acts as yet another device to shut your kid up for a few minutes with as much educational value as giving your kid a rusty spoon to play with. It'll get to a point where every kids show will be some variation of "Learn your ABC's and colors" with some character they dug up from their archives that zoomer parents will recognize and shove their kids in front of with the hope that it will be on the same level as they remember it, yet it won't.

My dad built me a little wooden bridge that would fit for the rails to go on. Maybe you could do the same for your son? In order to prove a point, they dismantled the railway and partially bricked up the tunnel after he refused multiple attempts to forcibly remove him from said tunnel (even Thomas got involved). He was kept there for a few months and had to watch other trains on the train tracks and tunnel next to him pass by him every day, but he couldn't speak as his fire had gone out. He was eventually let out when Gordon, another train, broke down and Henry was offered the chance to redeem himself and save the day. However, Henry would go on to be one of the more depressing engines in the series because he was always breaking down, wasn't as strong as the other trains, etc.
>>715308507>it was still fucked that these sapient trains were basically destined to be dismantled or left to rust if people saw no need for them and the trains were afraid of thatThat's pretty much what life is like for humans though if you think about it.

>>715309252George Carlin and Alec Baldin were great. They made a pretty distinctive voice for each train that actually made them sound like their own character. Couldn't care for any other American narrators after them though which coincidentally coincided with the Thomas series going down the drain.
Go and watch Ringo's narration again. He was honestly pretty fucking flat for his voices.

Did anyone watch this? It only had one season but was basically Thomas with boats, made by the same company with a lot of the model detail of the early seasons if not even better. Pretty sure it's all on youtube last I checked.
I remember there was one character who was a lazy Mexican tramp freighter wearing a sombrero who was constantly trying to sneak into the harbor with contraband and bypassing customs, so they were ahead of their time in that regard.
>>715314992They ARE official. UK is decaying even in cartoons.

>>715280945What is this face trying to convey?
>>715281287Whether they're in control or not is based on the plot.
I don't remember if the original books mentioned having crew or if it was just the Fat Controller in a sea of sentient trains.
>>715281506>To my understanding from watching with my kids, they have basically full control provided they have fuelI think I recall

Remember Britt Allcroft basically jumped ship from the UK to the US because of the show. She herself didn't invent Thomas so when she had to write the film it was... retarded and Americanised and obsessed with a girl train (played by herself), no offence burgers I just don't think it's Thomas the Tank Engine after you picked her up.
My only memory of this show was this one episode where one of the trains is trapped inside a tunnel and there's a ghost or something
Fucking traumatizing
>>715280945I think Thomas works because he has a grey face. These dudes have flesh toned, baby faces with bulging eyes and wrinkles and laugh lines.

There's something inherent in a people's genes that allows them to understand what is and isn't cute.
This drawing was made in 1735 in Japan. Imagine growing up in the 1600's post civil war Japan that was a horrifically violent period, and still being able to draw a really cute shark.
So what is wrong with Br*toids? why can't they design cute?

>>715315246Who is this for?
