What makes it so iconic while the sequel is forgettable trash?

Challenge? Nonexistent, and we'll lock you to the lowest difficulty your first run even though the hardest mode is still a breeze

Bullet time balanced and useful? Hell no, it basically never runs out but feels shit to use

Shitty motion blur out the ass and pointless bullet-time animations like spinning around like a gay ballerina? You betcha

Making a random whore who tried to kill Max the focal point of the sequel? Of course

Max acting like both a pathetic simp loser and a helpless fucking puppy? You know it

Almost zero interactive elements across levels? Absolutely

Variety of enemy types? How does two enemy types copy pasted hundreds of times sound?

What a fucking disappointment, the whole thing is just so phoned in and low effort, no wonder it sold like shit and tanked the series

It's dogshit

It was responsible for many "first" within the gaming industry, was stylish as fuck, was Finnish as hell, and essentially coins the Y2K vibe.

Sequel was a bit rushed and suffered from the fact that most cool characters DIE in the first game, leaving the writer less assets to work with, thus kinda ruining the big twists and finale.

Max Payne trilogy was amazing and it sucks that the remake by Remedy will most likely ruin everything about them made them great.

unironically though
sequel's gloomy depressed face actually brought down Max's charisma from the previous game

I was being unironic. Everyone recognizes the original Max Payne, his look is iconic.
The sequel is just whatever. More of the same gameplay that at this point was getting a bit old, with little of the original soul remaining.
