If I only need one reason, I'll go with the fomo events and limited access to fights that are an attempt to increase player count. My computer ran the game ok, I didn't mind the story segments, and I still had fun even if I had to wear bad armor to force difficulty, but I draw the line when the game won't let me solo the tempered monster they added in the update without a random chance of it showing up. Hopefully when I get around to playing the more recent update, I'll actually be able to also play the rest of the previous update this time if RNG wills it.

They ruined IG.

Game is completely trivialized by the existence of Focus mode and wounds. Even then, most monsters are painfully slow compared to the hunter. Abyssmal base monster roster. Game's story is a shitty slog and forced down your throat. Ugly aesthetics and art direction in general. Artian is horrid endgame system. Game is entirely built on investigations and barely has any meaningful side quests or optional quests to unlock unique gear or quest lines. Lack of quest variety in general is a problem and makes the game even more stale. Shittiest maps in the franchise and Seikret is literally mandatory to traverse a lot of sections in them. The armor and weapon skill separation, which was implemented because now we can swap weapons at anytime, yet don't really have many reasons. TUs take waaaaay too fucking long to drop.

Don't even have to bring the terrible optimization.

focus mode is one of the better things they have done as a new mechanic in the past couple entries. problem is just that it and wounds completely break the game because it just wasn't accounted for in the rest of the design. I guess you could say that makes it shit, but at the core I think it has potential. 360° GS TCS are ridiculous though, but at the same time needed to keep the weapon competitive. The real problem for me is all the parry slop and encouraging collision of hitboxes instead of side stepping with pure positioning (no reliance on iframes)
capcom unfortunately fell for the parry slop meme and insists to put such a shallow mechanic front and center in all their games now.

Monster hunter needs a specific balance of hunter/monster strength and speed for the gameplay to be monster hunter. Hunters are just too fast and unkillable so there's no reason to not just spam your highest damage combo with no regard to anything until the big healthbar is gone like it's an MMO, rather than methodically hunting dangerous monsters.
Say "high rank game" or "more experienced player" as you will, but it doesn't change that you basically don't need to think about anything while hunting in this game, whereas if you stop paying attention in older games you can get your shit pushed in even by shitmons. Fuck, even Gypceros was dangerous in old games but they decided his power move (flash) was literally going to be a weakness for him in this game because it's an opening for a focus attack

Release: no changes, have to do everything in single player
TU 1: now the game crashes even in single player
TU 2: the big fix they implement is to have the settings give accurate VRAM usage so I can choose settings that won't crash the game.
Now I can play mult-NOPE, game crashes in a hunt again and now it can't even get to the title screen without crashing. Even a fresh install doesn't work.
I've never given a game a negative review before, but this is unacceptably bad. (Plus the story really is crap, and I liked World's story.)

Focus strikes remove the chance that you will ever miss the monster. The story was really bad, even for a MH story. They made rare stuff really common and removed the need to farm for monster parts/decorations. Artian weapons mog the need to use any other weapon. Separating weapon skills and armor skills, making it harder to make mixed sets like in previous games. Chocobo takes you directly to the monster, so you never have to learn the map/different areas. Making the end hunt screen skippable and removing friendly fire, so you can't run around attacking your team after a hunt and launch them into the air. The end game was shit, hunt the monster with chains over and over again, because it gives the most red rewards, is not fun content. Playing mother may I, with the handler is pretty gay as a feature. It might sound cool the first few times, but having to get permission from the mousey jewish lady for the 1000th time gets very old.

Theory is it's to highlight one particular monster in a pack, but they almost never used that mechanic so it's pointless

Artian weapons are so good that you're basically hamstringing yourself not using them, but they're just really boring and stupid compared to the actual monster weapons. Figuring out how to best work around the strengths and weaknesses of weapons that have their own personality is fun, rolling on the slot machine until you get a weapon that just has all good stuff and no downsides is not. Combine that with the fact that all of the damn rewards for the hardest hunts are fucking artian parts, and you have a game that just kinda kills all of its own fun.

The blonde blacksmith (Gemma) is over sexualised. I'm not sure why the blonde blacksmith in the game has to look like an adult film star, there was the same issue in FF15 i believe with the mechanic. You'll never see women like this in day to day life and the other women in the game look normal. I don't get this characters place in this game and setting and I likely won't be letting my teenage son play it now with the sexualised content...
