Get comfortable with the idea of things going wrong and losing. The game simply cannot be enjoyed at its peak if you view it a linear progression. Losing is fun. Abandoning your colony and starting over is fun.

Making 1/2 rooms with everything but the kitchen/food storage was ridiculously efficient, even the mood debuffs were cancelled by the fact that you only needed to get good wealth in a couple of rooms, and your pawns would actually socialise. The efficiency in terms of travel time, wealth management and just general logistics (particularly with regard to expansion) made it so much superior to personal quarters it was insane. Personally my heart wants every pawn in their place, but after one raxmaxxed run my heart was overruled.
Also, respect armor.

Being able to build shuttles is pretty great. my colony is surrounded by mountains and large hills so traveling anywhere, even if it was just 10 tiles away, wasn't really worth it and using drop pods and sending materials to build more was a hassle.
500 weight and pretty good range with 400 fuel (and ability to carry a LOT more as cargo is a gamechanger
finally i can go grab a third mechlink, a bunch of treasure and finally get good use out of long-distance scanner

Haven't played Odyssey yet, but have seen some videos. Seems like 1.6 + Odyssey combines quite a lot of mods together in a more refined, put-together state, and adds probably the best performance-improving update the game has ever seen.

You know, I thought the DLC was going to be a shitty rip off of SOS2 and you know what? After playing it for a good few hours. I was right. The gravship mechanics are like a watered down shitty version of SOS2. The only novel and imo redeeming elements of the new DLC are the new weather systems and tile modifiers. So fucking obnoxious that they took mods like Designator shapes, but then made them worse. What's that? You want to create a structure that's a solid rectangle? Sorry! No can do!
I bought the DLC purely because I think this DLC has the potential to be on Biotech's level for mod integration and in the hopes that they make an SOS3 with Odyssey as the foundation. Cause this ain't it chief.

You can actually use your combat mechs now, landing and raiding the dungeons and complexes

Is there any way to have pawns (hunting, farming, etc.) drop off items at a generic drop point only to then have haulers automatically bring them to their respective store rooms? Having to trek through an entire mountain base to drop some minor shit off is so insanely inefficient when you want your working pawns to actually spend time working

An example for me was back in DF I was mismanaging food and beer, so a child ended up dying in the main barracks. Suddenly all of my dwarves a freaking the fuck out because there was as ghost dwarf child haunting their quarters. Being in experienced I just tombed up the barracks and built a new one. It was an amazing experience and incredible lore for my settlement.
Having one unknown mod be the culprit for something going wrong when you have a 500+ mod list is suicide tier.

You can get really complex with heating the killbox up too, but I've never bothered with that. I put an access door (closed) near the entrance of the killbox and make a prison nearby that so I can imprison my foes more easily. I've had a 50+ person colony before...

I want to like rimworld but there are always five thousand little things that make me dislike the game when I pirate it to try it out every ~3 years or so. The trading autism, managing everyone's walking speed being extremely important, how it's about handling 3-5 people's mood swings with the same research tree every game with 50% of your gameplay being sitting and waiting for research.
It's so close to being good, maybe this time I'll try some mods in 6-12 months as they update.

One time I gene edited my slave laborers into being super obedient workers, who are super frail, but could clone themselves and would turn into cooked food on death. If I have 8 turrets, maybe it's not a good idea for the faction to even consider sending 4 people that barely have pistols, which would be 25% of their entire tribe. For the cavemen tribes at least I can believe that they're too stupid to know what turrets are, but any semi intelligent faction should not attempt it and should instead use diplomaty to worship you or use diplomaty to convince other tribes to attack together. Also the whole thing that they just know what sort of loot have is stupid. If they haven't scouted any wealth from inside the bases it should not exist to them or they should make an educated guess depending on the size and material of the base. The game is fun and I like raids, but it feels like handouts for the player. Oh you're running low on gear and don't want to scavenge? Here lets send you a wave of shitty enemies that are basically lootboxes.
