Picked this up during sales and oh boy this remaster is really something. It's been a long time since I played the OG but this is a remaster done right as far as I can tell. Sometimes it just werks. And let's be real, in this case it outpaces the OG which is terribly clunky by todays standards. Not unplayable mind you, but this remaster nailed it.

It feels soooo good playing a modern release that doesn't treat the player like a mouthbreathing retard. Half the gameplay is brainpower. Any other good remasters I might have missed? Anyone played the SS2 remaster yet? Is it good too?

It legit was my goty for that year, the best part is just the atmosphere is perfect. Its unlike anything else, I love the bleak cyberpunk feel of it and the labrynth space station. Literally no other modern game captures the feel, I love how you are meant to explore and reason things together.

>>715293625
Nah I think each level gets more complex and varied from the last to keep it interesting but its not for everyone. I think no matter how good it is it will always be niche.

Got it on a whim having never played the original, and it was one the best games of the past several years imo. The modern "spiritual successors" don't get close, even Prey got pretty boring for me quickly while I enjoyed this from beginning to end.

I feel the same about Pray I think System Shock shits all over it. The plot is neat but feel like they had to lean into the absurd shapeshifting and powers out of desperation to come up with a gimmick. Meanwhile system shock really feels like ur interacting with a huge living station.

It's good, I haven't been able to finish it yet.
But /v/ has a hateboner for it because they changed the bleep-bloop soundtrack to something less retarded. Plus apparently they fucked up the ending, but I can't speak for that.

just finished a semi-decent 3/3/3/3 run last night with a few mods, but i paused at a bad time before the last cutscene, so THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT was accompanied by a looping menu sound as a backing track: https://files.catbox.moe/9l39qv.mp4
i could write an effortpost explaining why ssr is inferior to a game from 30 years ago, but that glitch sums it up better than i ever could. it being less awful than most modern remakes because it doesn't treat the player like a toddler is just an indictment of how far the industry's fallen since looking glass died
>>715294075
it really is, i installed this (https://www.nexusmods.com/systemshock2023/mods/118) as a replacement and was surprised at how much more i enjoyed the game because of it. the vanilla ost is so bland and forgettable that i can't believe it was done by one of the guys who worked on the ricardo shock song
>>715297046
>apparently they fucked up the ending
oh they did. tl;dr, the last shodan fight is so badly designed that you're better off not picking up the weapon ""upgrades"" they give you on the highest difficulty because they deal a fuckton of damage to yourself. it's so braindead that i almost want nightdive to develop ss3 just to witness the sheer retardation they'd come up with

The remake is amazing but the classic music was amazing. The remake would be 10/10 if it had the old music. This is what they were doing with the soundtrack before foolishly deciding to change it.

People complaining about the soundtrack don't seem to want to accept that the game's pace no longer matches that soundtrack. The remake is slower and darker, the original soundtrack simply does not work, it would cause tonal whiplash.

SS2 Remaster is decent enough but a lot of the work was already put in by modders from years back so installing the original and adding those three mods gives a similar experience. Some of the enemy model updates are questionable, however. If it was cheaper I'd recommend it.

*have. the remake's aesthetic continues to baffle me though. 90% of nightdive's visual updates are reasonable, but 10% are absolute dogshit like "let's add a crappy red tint filter" and "let's give cyberspace technicolor vomit walls" that just makes the other 90% look unnecessarily worse. the overcluttered environments and ue4's shininess actively make the game harder to play too, it strained my eyes enough that i ended up using a fucking crt shader this time just to mitigate it. i'd ask how or why robb waters approved most of this shit, but he worked on bioshock infinite, so i guess that speaks for itself

Isn't plot 1 mode literally the same kind of handholding with waypoints that later AAA games have?
