So is it better or worse than the default experience of the game? And will Naughty Dog ever release a game that isn't the Last of Us ever again?

idk I haven't played it yet, but I imagine going in trying to assess whether it's better or worse is the wrong attitude. but i imagine it frontloads cutscenes more so the pacing at the start is slower but once you hit seattle it's much faster.

It's actually better surprisingly. If it had released like this originally, then people would have liked it a lot more since you wouldn't have killed Joel off in the first 5 minutes. Joel does not die till your about 2-4hrs into the game now. and by that point, you've already grown to like Abby.

The only real issue TLOU2 ever had was its story continuing from the 1st game with the same characters. They took a beloved character and kill him off by some random girl at the start of the game, so of course the normies are not going to like that.

But here you understand why she did it before it happens. You're not forced to play some character who just murdered everyones favorite from the 1st game, and then have the player try and kill the 2nd most loved character from time to time with still no understanding of what is even going on until several hours later, you finally find out why she did it.

The editing structure they originally went for would have worked better if the character you were killing at the start was a literal random. if you replace Joel and Ellie and their friends/family in TLOU2 with other characters. Then the original TLOU2 story is great.

The only thing I don't like about the chronological order is that it's too slow paced at the start now due to those segments not being designed as a proper gameplay opener. It's more of an interactive movie, at least until you get to the part where you play as Ellie after Joel dies.
