"Did" makes the statement past tense; the following verb is given in present tense. I find it curious to learn that this combination tense doesn't have its own name like "present progressive."

I won't say that the branding struck gold. It's not the branding that made the console good. It was the most powerful console for it's time with tons of great iconic games. THAT is what made the branding so recongizable.
