You know what is the craziest part about the viewership stats? It's not that the SGDQ 2025's peak numbers are worse than the lowest numbers back in the late 2010s GDQs. It's that the gap between each day of SGDQ 2025's peak and bottom are very small in both absolute and relative % values compared to previous GDQs.

What this means is that GDQ has essentially lost all of their normal viewers who conform to the viewing pattern of tuning in during prime hours and tuning out during dead hours. Instead, GDQs' viewers now consist primarily of people like us in this thread, or in various speedrunning discords and subreddits, who tune in during most hours of the marathon.

tl;dr
Weirdos, losers, and autists obsessed with speedruns are the demographic that still bother watching GDQs now, making the future of GDQs even more grim.

I've watched several streamers who formerly did runs at GDQ. They are entertaining and can make a living off of their personalities from their Twitch streams. It seems to me that at some point GDQ had two options:
>get big-name streamers that attract thousands of viewers by name alone
>pay for their flights and hotels
or
>find people through community
>lower standards for runners and runs
The more viewers a streamer has, the more entertaining they are. This is just a general rule, and it isn't always true, but as an average it is. There are few incentives for a big streamer to take a week off to go to a charity event on their own dime (where they are at risk for being banned or facing drama from the staff). GDQ is entirely at fault for the degeneration of their event. They could have invested in the runners who people tuned in for, instead they attempted to stomp them out in favor of randos who do meme runs. It is much easier to control runners who are DESPERATE to get onto GDQ because their streaming career depends on it.

GDQ failed to entice them (in my opinion because they felt they couldn't control popular streamers) and now they're dealing with the fallout

The funny thing is they did this for the first time this event, the ambassadors program, you do one charity stream before the event and they pay for the flight and room (something volunteers don't even get).

The only people who took them up on it were deep GDQ insiders, who brought NO new eyes to the program.

They mentioned this once at the beginning of the marathon and then quietly stopped talking about it, it didn't work at all.
