I feel like in the lexicon of PC gamers "mods" have reached some kind of mythical status, but basically mods only do one of two things:
1. Replace textures
2. Add "more" of something

If your game has fundamental gameplay issues, such as your combat being a floaty, weightless, mess, then mods aren't going to fix it.
