Im in favor of anti-piracy laws for two reason.
1) although there are good arguments that duplication is not theft since its not taking away a physical item. those arguements don't make piracy okay. it just means that since this is the first time in human history were confronted with such a situation, it needs to be addressed on it's own terms. if it needs to be explained to you why taking something for free that you're supposed to pay for is wrong, well you're a nigger and unfit for civilized society.
2) my father always told me to follow the law, even the ones i disagree with. like for example, i think I should be able to slap my wife when she pisses me off. but that is illegal, so i do not do that. instead i just yell at her and tell her to shut the fuck up.

>>715332797If you grew up poor or raised by parents who grew up poor it's difficult to unlearn the poorfag mentality. Symptoms include being super frugal with money, hoarding garbage in case it's useful in the future including a hilariously large assortment of plastic bags, mailer boxes and glass containers, gathering every single recyclable plastic bottle to get .5 cents rebate per plastic bottle, falling for even minor discounts, never paying for software or games opting to download everything or copying a huge stack of CD/DVDs if it's the 90s/00s, not moving out of my parents house coz I would be crazy to waste so much money on rent.
I still have the poorfag mentality but ever since I got a job with a decent income (for my country's standards anyway) I've found myself splurging myself on more shit and buying Steam games (more convenient than trying to make repacks work on the Steam Deck), but my parents still question me about shit that comes to mail and scold me if they perceive it to be "a waste of money".

theft: person A has a TV. person B breaks into A's house and steals the TV. person A no longer has the TV. person B does.
piracy: company creates and sells digital object (game, music, movie, etc). person downloads digital object without paying. company has not lost ther digital object because digital objects can be copied infinitely. however person has still committed a crime by gaining a digital object for free that is meant to be paid for.
you can OBJECTIVELY say that piracy is not theft. that however does not make it legal. it is still illegal. because in our society, gaining an object that is for sale, that you did not pay for is illegal. it being a physical or digital object is irrelevant. since when does saying that because X crime is not Y crime (piracy is not theft) mean anything?

Piracy of intellectual property is the biggest fucking grey zone and you can thank their own system created to protect those rights being abused.
How many cheaper alternatives have been discovered throughout recent history that has been gate kept by larger organisations to prevent the innovation of fellow mankind.
The gate keeping occurs because they want to maximize profit for the market they have created for themselves and dominate in.
People are forgetting the innovation and rapid development of video games in the golden years from 2D to 3D. The market eventually achieved a monopoly by a few companies, here's looking at you EA that did the apple thing crushing competition and talent effectively cock blocking anything good to come out for 20 YEARS.
Then you want to debate about their rights? Fuck off. Gaming isn't where it should be and you can blame these studios for their sloppiness and laziness despite sitting on a goldmine of technology and ideas.
>>715334606Mostly and I don't blame them sucks enough living there let them have it

>>715351746 (me)
to further add. Game development taking 5+ years is internal politics. It is a weakness of their organisation and company vision. The DEI games of AAA quality that DONT SELL are the products of companies that have been corrupted from the inside and are being daily incompetent to do their job. Marketing teams that have no idea what gamers want? Leaders that just want to churn out a dollar? Fuck all of them. If the repercussion is piracy then I am all for it on top of ignoring the fuck out of them and not buying any of the low quality crap they call 'GREAT' in a brain washing campaign.
You have to bat for your own team.
Developers get as little as 30% of the price of a game. The rest goes to publisher and platform owner.
The publisher and platform owner don't care much about you, or the developer. Why would they? They are self-interested, and so should you be. Otherwise it's an uneven playing field. I will never willingly/voluntarily give my money to them.
>>715332589 (OP)Kind of hard to dispute this when the currently most profitable games are mostly played by f2p players that spread the word but are financed by whales

>>715351280Games used to be more flexible with their requirements, tho. The ones you could run without an accelerated card got huge in poorfag countries, strategy games especially, like Heroes 3 in Russia or Starcraft in Korea. Even 3D games could run on poorer hardware in software mode in funky resolutions like 320x240. Now nobody can optimize worth a fuck now.
And I'd say it got harder to get outdated but still decently new hardware on the cheap now (I bet it's thanks to crypto and proompting). I also don't see moderately powerful entry-level GPUs like GT 1030 anymore, at least as far as NVidia's concerned.
>>715352615>I think it survived because of /a/ and not the piracy. How do you think /a/ was reading it? Psychic connection? Someone scanned and fan translated it online. Thats piracy.
>>715332914I wonder how they estimate that. Do they think we'd be buying these games if we couldn't get them for free or something?
>>715351247Some pirates reform. Perhaps most of have once games became really easy to obtain legally (piracy is said to be a service problem after all). You can hop on Steam, and find stuff at a high discount instead of torrenting at 30KB/s or looking for cracks and keygens on shady sites. F2P also made piracy less viable since you can play for free but can't pirate the mtx.
I wonder if the market is suffering because of lower piracy rates, actually. If hundreds of thousands of poor bastards pirated Concord and populated the servers, maybe it would stay alive long enough to sell a few more copies?

Lol, what a stupid view. Entertainment is only a bad thing in the eyes of retarded neocons who think everyone should work for the good of the sacred nation (which, in their view, is Israel, not the US, by the way).
Your mind has been polluted by people who see you as slaves. Stop being a faggot and don't be afraid to spend time and money on books, games, and these things that cost basically nothing but will fulfill your need for entertainment for weeks, months, sometimes years.
>>715355545It's more like:

>>715357002It's just a bunch of faggots who are assmad that other people got have for free.
I have hundreds of physical games I've purchase over the decades. I literally do not care if someone on the other side of the earth, or even my fucking neighbor, downloads it off the internet and plays it for free.
If I want to replay an old game I own, I don't pull my old console out of the closet and dust my copy of to play it. No, I fucking pirate that shit and emulate it.
Do I have to? No, but it's easier and faster.
Should I get mad if someone makes a perfect Switch 2 emulator and someone pirates the no good games for it? Why the fuck do I care.
Stop giving a shit about what other people are doing. Do you really care that someone got to play a game that you loved and is now talking about how great it is with you and didn't pay a dime?
These companies are not your friends and you should not be financially invested in them to the point that you ostracize your fellow gamers.

why does this have higher priority over arresting jews that rape children?
>>715332589 (OP)Which domains got raped?
The internet should have taught people that copyright laws over information is just choking out human innovation and growth. The internet's peak was when people were openly sharing pirated content with each other and creating more from it. Meanwhile everything is locked down now and that same creative culture is no longer to be seen. In the end piracy does not matter, it's only hurting the potential money that corporations think they would be getting. If piracy was that damaging we have denuvo that is uncrackable and most game companies are choosing to not adopt denuvo because piracy does not hurt their games in any perceivable manner.
>>715358229I will only stop playing video games and reading my pirated e-books when a politician proposes a plan for the independence of my nation and my race, which will necessarily include the exile and extermination of neocons. Until that happens, just cry some more.

If someone spends all their disposable income on buying games.
And then when they've got no disposable income left, they fileshare a game.
In this scenario. How did the people selling the game lose out on any money? There was no lost sale. The person in question had no disposable income left.

>>715354970>Doesn't matter if your game has been off the shelves for 60 years, you own itExcept abandonware is when no one owns it. Not just when no one is doing anything with it. People will often cite the latter as abandonware even in instances where it's not.
But abandonware is where the rights evaporated and no one picked them up.
>>715361823You do realize that anecdotes are way the fuck worse than studies, right?

One is not stealing the product itself, but is stealing something, that is, labour, effort, passion, in exhange for nothing. Everybody knows deep down you're doing something you're not meant to do, but you do it anyways. If you were a dev you would feel it in your bones how pirates are just as bad as thiefs.
