No, seriously. Why do we not get casual, low-stake FPS games anymore? I mean the sort of game where you just load into a match of capture the point or TDM, kill as many people as you can and chill. Halo commited suicide, CoD puts all of its eggs into the battle royale basket and Battlefield has turned to shit. But why are no other companies stepping up? Why is every new shooter game a battle royale and/or extraction shooter, or some slow, hyper-competitive round-based thing like Siege/CS/Valorant? What happened to mindless TDM?

It does not catter to the zoomie / alphie audience.
Simple as that.

Every modern boomer shooter got TDM.
I would even play Fortnite if Zero Build got a proper TDM mode.
Prodeus is not even THAT old and not a single soul is playing online.
Ironically I can still find full matches for Quake I, even the Admin was surprised we got a full house tonight.

I wonder why they don't appeal to zoomies though. I mean TDM is basically as simple as a competitive shooting game can be, that's why it had such mass appeal. Most FPSs nowdays have so much downtime, you'd think the tiktok-brained youths would enjoy a fast-paced experience

Because they circle around streamer and ecelebs who pretend BR takes "skill"
Basically kids want a piece of that "e-fame" and strive to make a profit from playing the game.
Since TMD is pure gameplay and no stakes, they do not care even when arena shooters require more skill than BR modes. Not to mention that at a competitive level, arena shooters have matches that go on for a while.

TDM on FPS games is not as easily monetizable as Battle Royale in third person.
Mind you BR as a genre is not actually fun, it's predicated upon gambling weapon spawns and then proceeding to run around for 5-10 minutes before you start shooting someone.
That whole running sequence doing nothing is enough to make zoomies buy a 20 dollar skin to stare at
