Is Witcher 3 really as bad as /v/ says it is?

Probably not.

I liked it a lot, but I loved 1 and 2
The open world is completely superfluous, just do the quests. There is no point "exploring" cause all you'll find is another monster nest you press a button on

You find out the open world is worthless pretty quick but thankfully you never have to engage in it.

The combat is kind of shit. Basically the only way to play it is to build stupidly overpowered builds or you get shot to death by archers while you ballerina dance across the battlefield.

The only good part of TW3 base game is Novigrad. The DLC are stellar. 2 is far superior. If the Witcher series was all games as small in scope as 2 and Blood and Wine the games would be much better

They fixed these issues with the 4.0 patch. Aard and Yrden do crazy damage to all enemies now, and with the B&W mutations you can create some truly OP builds.

Combat gets fixed by installing the mod that removes the soft lock. You freely attack without the forced snap on movement and can freely cast signs hitting inbetween enemies to strike multiple ones, works with sword swings too but also lets you miss if you don't do the manual footwork. It's not even funny how this little mod improves the controls, it becomes player skill based. You can also dodge past an enemy swings and hit them in the back with a crit.

Yeah that problem was on release. I don't remember which mutation I used in the DLC. I think at that point I was fully focussed on what I did in the endgame (use my stamina regen to do heavy attacks with that decoction that makes them do % damage) so I probably used a toxicity thing

Also unless you're playing on the hardest difficulty, the oils on weapons become absolutely useless and a chore to use. I don't use them on entire playthroughs, simply because it's annoying to keep applying them to my weapon.
Gwent was great though, so were the DLC's

The mod actually enables manual aiming and movement, vanilla has forced autotraget and auto movement making combat on rails. I play with kb&m.

+dialogue and voice acting is great
+story is okay and a nice end to Geralt's story with the DLC's
+gwent is amazing
+map is huge
+world looks pretty good

-quest variety sucks ass
-almost all witcher contracts are the same
-combat is trivial
-main villain and the entire wild hunt is an absolute joke
-map is mostly empty and the rare times you find an interesting monster, it's like level 30+ to fight it, so you have to avoid it for ages anyway

7/10 overall for me. Plenty of content for a playthrough, but after a while it becomes tedious.

I could not play it without yawning every 30 seconds. The combat is bad and the only thing that is somewhat engaging is the story, so at that point why not just watch it on Youtube like a movie?

The Anons are correct about the expansions. They are far better than the main game. I liked the main game on release but didn't think it was amazing. The expansions though were pristine. It's cool that they let you play them standalone as well.

The Witcher3 was so extremely long to play through that cdred went the opposite direction with Cyberpunk2077 and made the campaign too short. Open worlds is hard work.

One of the best RPGs ever made, but it does have flaws(like all other rpgs do). Mostly in the combat being easy and gear and potions being meaningless, so there is not a lot of rpg expression. The world building, exploration and side quests feel top tier.

no, but it's also not a top tier game either. the combat is pretty dogshit, and the exploration is rather bleh. the highlights are easily the questing and presentation, and the latter can be dodgy at times.
anyone shocked at cyberpunk being particularly jank even after all the patching has no idea how fucking jank witcher can get in all 3 games
