You ignore X entirely and go straight to Z.

Just play X Dive it's a greatest hits version of the X series with better gameplay.

X1, X2, X4 are good. Haven't played X3 much. X5 has some seriously stupid experimental mechanics. Never tried 6 or 7. I tried 8 for 30 minutes and it seemed underwhelming but 30 minutes isn't much time.

Collection is overpriced garbage. The only ‘'good’' collection is BN because they put in a bit of effort, also overpriced for what it is.

x1 and x4 are the only great ones

Zero/ZX collection has much higher audio quality on the voice lines in ZX so that's something. Can't get that any other way.

There's that but I've always felt that the Inti creates, Gunvolt series is what Zero should be. I also don't endorse Inti's lack of effort and disregard for Westerners. But it's better than ZX/Zero, I can still buy a DS and ZX/Zero on the cheap.

Maybe Capcom should come up with a better offer than $60 for GBA ROMs infested with Enigma malware

That’s by and away the worst in the series

X1 and X6 were the only ones I could afford as a kid and going back to the others just doesn't hit. I still replay X6 almost annually tho

The best X game is in collection 2 tho
Anonymous No.715348115

But they made the cutoff be X4, so the best game isn't in collection 2.

X1, X2 and X4 are must plays.
X5 and X8 are pretty good but okay to drop if you're pressed for time.
X6 should be skipped, but is worth checking out as a curiosity if you like the series and its intricacies since it does some pretty weird things.
X3 should be skipped because it's an offensively boring game that's hard carried by its engine. The Zero Project hack for the SNES version turns it into something playable.
X7 is irredeemable garbage and should not be touched under any circumstances.

Both of them because the collections suck and have a ton of input delay.

Play 1 to 4, skip the rest.

Really kind of Capcom putting all the good games in one collection, making the other not worth buying.

Steam as well. Switch is definitely even worse though because you're dealing with the collection's input delay on top of the Switch's inherent input delay.

Off the top of my head, most of the ZX voices still sound like bitcrushed ass, at least in english. Japanese voices seem fine as far as I can tell.

Unless it's one of those speedrun/no damage tech ones, you won't feel the input lag. I say this as someone who has beaten 5 MMX games back to back by emulating them on PCSX2

You're an idiot. Go try getting the buster in X1 without Zero. I'll wait.

X1: very good start
X2: dash available from the start, but weaker soundtrack and every boss fight is annoying
X3: one of the tougher ones, the ability to affect fortress bosses is nice, but getting the armor parts makes it worse for some reason
X4: two distinct playstyles with their own stories, a definite highlight
X5: excellent soundtrack, tries to end the story but whiffs on everything important, don't play without mods that remove Alia's interruptions
X6: infamously frustrating design, but some people love it for that
X7: just listen to the soundtrack and skip it
X8: a decent recovery from X7, if not quite on the level of the best entries. Man-O-War's stage blows, though.
XTreme and XTreme 2: neither is terrible but both are skippable
Command Mission: it's OK, but not mandatory.

I got 100% in the trilogy on PCSX2 anon. Yes, input lag at that level is negligible. You probably have a skill issue, but I agree, overpriced collections should fix that. Capcom deserves the crap.

Just skip 3, 6 and 7 and your fine.
