Learning Japanese is great and all, but I just have to wonder how this creepy escapicism has dominated the incel mind. I'm not just talking about Americans. I saw a lot of Asians who hate their country so much and expect something wonderful waiting for them beyond the borders and oceans. They literally are writing their own isekais but worse than actual ones because they are about not only escapicism but also a twisted vision of actual part of the world. They are daydreaming about going to a foreign land that is exotic and nice enough (e.g., Japan, Scandinavian countries, even Russia).
Most of them don't even make it, but some of them actually get to go there and start living in there, only to find the local community so hostile to foreigners, the culture so different from his own, etc.
Eventually, he starts to hate being in there and become a fervent hater of the country.

This is one of the biggest hurdles new JP/Chinese learners face is because they constantly feel the need to confirm they know the readings of shit, it takes them longer on average to break away into faster reading speeds so they get stuck reading slowly and inhibiting their gains for a longer time than if they'd learned any other language.

fun fact - once you have consumed a lot of translated JP tv shows, videogames, anime etc you can automatically understand the untranslated ones without learning anything because 99% of plots and characters are really that generic + combined with the fact that you learn some basics just by listening to the language for so long
yes you cant read shit in visual novels and manga etc., but if you mostly just play vidya and watch tv shows like me then you dont really need to learn the language, in fact most JP learners are VNfags
>>715369642Input is receiving any form of the language with no regard for whether you understand it. Turning on a video in a random unknown language is "input" but since you know none of it and have no basis to start making sense of it, you are only left to whitenoise it. No amount of this will give you anything of worth.
Comprehensible input is something you can mostly understand and make sense of, leaving you with enough mental overhead to think about things like unknown words, deeper meanings, humor, etc.

>>715369326Just listening to podcasts when you know 0 percent of the language is a waste of time. You could start doing that once you already have solid foundations as a tool to practice the things you already know while walking around.
You can watch dramas with subtitles but you pause each sentence and look up each word. So that's going to be very boring at the start, but after a while you'll start remembering stuff.
I recommend you follow this guide
https://learnjapanese.moe/guide/ and later make your own anki deck with this
format https://animecards.site/
For a complete beginner, I would suggest you go through a basic most used deck like kaishi 1.5 and to read shounen manga which has furigana on kanji readings.
Of course complete beginners need to learn kana first

You are complete brainlet. The OP wanted to learn the language for video games, so in a few years he would have understood what he wanted to understand.
Le me guess, you only played older SNES games with kana and now you bitch about not knowing kanji? Espcecially if you played shit that's like 80% gameplay with barely any reading. How do expect to get better at reading when you barely read? There are shit loads of Japanese video games that are full of text, like JRPG's and VN's so that is definitely a you problem.
If you wanted to learn modern political language, then you should have read modern political texts, found in newspapers and on Japanese internet in general.
The stupidity on display on this site is astounding sometimes.

Hello fellow learners. How much have you read so far this year?
3,451,403文字 logged so far for me.

Kanji is easy, always start left to right, top to bottom, and you usually write the horizontal line first before the verticals. The exception is words like 避 or 匙 then you write the inside first then the outside.

>>715374973Isn't it possible that 在籍大学院 also = 出身大学
I've been studying japanese for a year I don't think I'll ever understand the difference between は and が
>は: used to introduce things and contrast things (I like X but not Y)
>が: also used for contrast (私が学生です): the student is me, as opposed to someone else)
So if I say "リンゴが好きです", doesn't that mean that I like apples as opposed to something else? but shouldn't I use は instead?

条痕色 (joukonshoku) - streak color

が answers to だれが
は often marks contrast (肉は好きだ (が、野菜は嫌いだ))
ドアを開けたのは田中さんです (the one who opened the door was tanaka) (not with が)
は for "as for" (私は買い物に行きます->(as for me,) I'll do the shopping (what about you?))
が to introduce new stuff, は to talk about something mentioned previously (昔々、姫がいました。姫は美しいでした -> there once was a princess. the princess was beautiful)
