Why does this decade have no identity of its own?

No shit. The only people who would say other wise are just soijaks who fell victim to the starwars cycle: dipped on the franchise / hobby for a while because they were jaded teens young adults so it had to be bad, came back as mid life crisis man children so now it has to be good

7 good games out of 200. Not really a very good showing, but you're still not wrong.

don't worry, we've got another 4.5 years for some horrible shit to happen
the previous 20s were pretty fucking awful, I'd be glad to just have a wholly uneventful decade
that said, covid was pretty horrendous (not the disease, but how everyone responded to it and tanked the economy over nothing)

The identity so far is characterized by:
>The rise of cozy games
>The rise of dad games (even AAA has Death Stranding, which is about being a delivery guy)
>The fall of AAA in general (excluding outliers like Kojima and FIFA, AAA has experienced massive issues across the board)
>The rise of Indies (for better or worse, there's more indie games coming out every day than there were in some months of the 2010s)
>A mixture of Souls fatigue and Souls diversification with a slew of Soulslikes releasing constantly, some are genuinely horrible while others are so good that fans of the formula are going absolutely rabid for more
>Last year we had a weird uptick in city builders in the indie sphere, but that has mostly died down
>The rise of Gachatrash (not to be confused with gacha in general, which has been somewhat relevant for a while prior to COVID+Genshin normalizing gacha)
There's probably a few other things I missed, but that's what I've gotten out of the '20s so far.

You're not wrong, anon. The 20s so far feel like someone mashed the "apocalypse lite" button repeatedly without ever fully committing. Everything's a weird echo of the past: media trying desperately to recapture glory days, politics stuck in an eternal loop of outrage bait, and games either trying too hard to be nostalgic or shoving live-service slop down our throats and hoping we don't notice. I’d kill for a decade that was just... chill. But we all know it’s gonna ramp up into some next-level nonsense soon. Buckle the fuck up.

I wouldn't say it's as good, but it's by no means a bad lineup.
